Who's the biggest miscast ever in a movie or TV adaption of wuxia fiction?
Not having witnessed Richie Ren's portrayl of Chu Liuxiang or Yang Guo, I must say, the worst that I've ever seen, may be Lawrence Ng as Zhang Wuji.
Que Piensas?

lawrence Ng as Zhang Wuji is in 2000 HSDS? waah.. well yea he may have had like 10 years older but come on... he did somewhat of a decent job <.<
i didnt watch the whole, but from glimpses, i saw sunny chan is unimpressive as wuhei. whereas in those early days, many complaint the actor (i dunno his name)who played as chan kalok with fiona leung(princess HH) and simon yam(Emperor QL) is total failure... even the series is kinda flop....
More than 10 years. Flash back to 15 years before HSDS 2000, when Lawrence Ng played in the "Six Stringed Lute Demon" series, I would say that he would have been moderately young enough to play Zhang Wuji. Here is a picture of pre-15 years Lawrence Ng (back in 1985):Originally Posted by batmankiller

Phillip Kwok as Shi Po Tian in 1982 Ode to Gallantry (Shaw Brothers movie).
He looks way too old to be SPT and I hate his potrayal of this character. I'm currently pretending his version of SPT doesn't exist.

Save for Liu Kai Chi as the 7th Brother in the Red Flower Society. I liked Liu Kai Chi's acting there, he portrayed a very smart and interesting character.Originally Posted by sheraldine

I don't know what TVB was thinking to make Lawerence Ng act as Zhang Wuji. Were they short on young actors? Perhaps Roger Kwok, Marco Ngai, Raymond Lam, Steven Ma, or maybe Benny Chan (the available actors during that year) would've suffice for the role.
Most exruciatingly painful miscast is Zhang Tie Lin as Yang Xiao! He's old, he's fat, he's leacherous costaring actress beware!

Oh yeah, the even more excruciatingly painful miscasts belong to the crew who portrayed the 7 Wu Dang Heroes in HSDS2003. They were sissys compared to HSDS1986 group of actors who actually know how to act and be all about brotherhood about it. Even when they cry they still look like men unlike those HSDS2003 group of actors.

Yes, but I don't think he looked as old as Lawerence is. Lawerence just does not have that youthful appearance like some actors do.Originally Posted by kidd

He was horrible as ZWJ. No wonder JY banned TVB from doing anymore adaptions.

Lawrence Ng as Cheung Mo Gei pretty much takes the cake for worst wuxia casting decision of ALL TIME, but any of Richie Ren's various wuxia roles will give the Ng casting a run for its money.
Ever notice how although there are plenty of legitimate complaints about the 1980s adaptations not being faithful to the novels, using cheap props and sets, etc., nobody ever complains about the casting? At least as far as casting was concerned, the 1980s adaptations seemingly could do no wrong. TVB had the Midas Touch in the 1980s as far as casting their wuxia series was concerned.
