Default There should be a gender option.

I always felt forums should have a gender option that will display their gender under their nick, so it saves some people the trouble of asking. Although you can sometimes tell a person's gender by their nick or personality. There are some instances people embarrassingly get it wrong.

    This is no fun lah.

What's next? Compulsary entry for birtdate, height, weight, hair color, eye color and race?

So, I object to the gender option.

I think it's fun when you can do guessing and it's also hilarious when people gets it wrong. ^-^

The purpose of an online persona is to have ambiguity. Why do we need to disclose our gender just because some people can't make an educated guess?

If one decides to be ambiguious, then they can choose not to click the gender option. However, let those who want to, the choice.

It gets annoying having to write username if you refer to the person more than one time. Would you rather write, I don't agree with username because username is rude and username's arguments is... , or "I don't agree with username because he is rude and his arguments is... "

Let the gender thing be optional.

BTW, some forums do have the gender option.

this option would only confuse some people. i mean there are individuals who cannot differentiate his/her gender. imagine the stress this will have on the individual who has to make this choice - if hes male or female

I guess you can be the exception to the rules, Net. It's no big deal, actually. Most of the time, I can assume a person's gender by the way they write. Girls/women tend to write longer posts and employ emotional reasoning in their arguments. Boys/Men usually write shorter and straight forward posts. Though, this is a generalize statement, I’m certain I’m right 90% of the time.

Those who object to this idea don’t get offended when we address you by the wrong gender.

Is this partly due to the continous questioning of Candide's gender?

no u use proper english and refer to the person as IT!!!

IT - used to represent a person or animal understood, previously mentioned, or about to be mentioned whose gender is unknown or disregarded

I don't agree with these gender choice cos the reason I am here is to be anonymous individual. Life outside in real world is hard enough that i need to be transparent on cyber world. Who care if people are confuse? If they ask nicely, I would tell that I am a gal
