Default Which Legendary Siblings TV series is the best?

Which version of Legendary Siblings/Jue Dai Shuang Jiao is the best? So far I've seen Dicky Cheung version, and it sucked. Has anyone seen the Jimmy Lin version or the 1988 version and would comment on which is better?

Although I have only watch 2 adaptions, I believe the one with Alec Su and Jimmy Lin is the best......The 2 princesses from Yi Hua Gong are extremely beautiful

Any Dicky Cheung's story is ridiculous and he himself is a bad choice to be XYE....

I haven't seen the Dicky Cheung version so can't comment but I've seen the other two.

I quite like both in its own way. Tony Leung is my fav actor in the 80's, especially in these types of cheeky, and really smart accidental hero type of series. No one can beat him. But I wasn't that impressed with any of the actress in that version, probably why I can't remember any of the actresses. Also I didn't really like Hugo that much, he did an alright job but I don't think he looks that handsome to play that character.

Wheras with the other version, Jimmy Lin and Alec Su were pretty good, but they just can't compare to Tony (well look-wise Alec is better then Hugo). Though I like all the actresses in this version especially Theresa Lee. The other girl was a bit annoying at the start but that was because of her character but she was much better after she made up her mind. And who could forget the two princesses. But with all the praises I'm giving it, the major downfall with this version (as with most taiwanese ancient series) is it kinda drags too much with too much talking and lots of unnecessary scenes and characters. Which is where TVB is much better at.

I can't choose, cas I really like Tony and I really like Theresa Lee!

Thanks for the input. I think I'll watch the Tony Leung version first. He does look ideal for XYE.

totally agree w/ what you said and wanna add that vivian (the annoying other girl) was too old for both the guys in looks if not in age.

also, i would choose the tony version just b/c I got tired w/ jimmy's version after awhile (it did get quite draggy)
How come most 江湖 (jiānghú) wanderers never worry about money? I wonder how a 大俠 (dàxiá) make a living...does meddling in people's business and righting wrongs pay well?

    Of the 5 known JDSJ,

Sek Sau and Wong Yuen Sun,
    Hugo Ng and Tony Leung,
    ??? and Sharon Yeung,
    Alec Su and Jimmy Lin,
    Nicholas Tse and Dicky Cheung,

I would say Dicky's was the worse in terms of faithfulness to the novel.

Sharon's version was simply pathetic. Sharon played Xiao Yu Er. You thought it can't get crappier? Her brother is played by an actress too!!!

Sek Sau and Wong Yuen Sun version I think is good, except that was made in the 70s. Good luck trying to find that one.

I like Tony's and Jimmy's version the most. Tony portrayed the role of Little Fish really well. Though Jimmy's looks resembled the Xiao Yu Er in the novel more. Alec and Jimmy also look more alike than Hugo and Tony.

Jimmy's version I hear is too long, and sometimes I feel Tony's version is too short.

Faithful wise, even though they both deviate a lot, Alec and Jimmy version is the closest. But even so, Su Ying does not appear in that version. How can you have an adaptation that excludes the "main girl" in the story?

DO NOT WATCH Dicky's version. The only reason I watched it was because JDSJ is my favorite story, and Dicky is my favorite actor, other then that, the series is crap.

I love Tony & Hugo's version the most. I liked the song, the actors/actresses and I think Princess Yao Yue was the prettiest (and most ruthless) one on this version compared to other versions. Tony was the best Little Fish, Hugo was the best Hua Wu Que, Jamie Chic & Michael Miu was the best twin's parents I think this one has Kitty Lai starred on it too, right? I don't remember the story that much anymore, but it left the best impression on me.

For Alec & Jimmy's version, it was too draggy & long that I couldn't even finish it.

Dicky Cheung's version was totally bad. I watched it superfast (fast-forward method)

I really wonder why don't they just film a faithful story according to its novel; the original story is sooooo much more better. To me, I guess the Tony & Hugo version is a slightly better one.

O/T: Has anyone read the Comic of The Legendary Siblings? XYE's martial arts is really cool in it. Recommend it to Legendary Siblings fans.

I assumed you read the ongoing translations so far right in the other thread? Noticed how Xiao Yu Er got WAY TOO much "screen time". Adaptions tend to make XYE and HWQ share the same amount of screen time. In the novel, it seems XYE is the true main character.

Yeah I'm reading Jean's translation... but I did finished the novel years back. It's kinda interesting reading its English version.

I have read 60+ of all 69 Gulong novels, this is the only one that made me cried(at the ending). I truefully hope that someday, someone will film a faithful adaption of the Legendary Siblings ! Its comic version is Excellent too.

So far, I only seen Tony Leung and Jimmy Lin versions.
Tony Leung version is so much better, only haft as long as Jimmy Lin version.
Jimmy Lin is taiwanese series so it is quite draggy whereas Tony version move in a very fast pace.......

I like the fact that Yao Yue got killed by Jiang Gum in Tony version and Jiang Gum ate his son so he can learn great kung fu.........

I've only seen Jimmy and Alec's version and I've always liked the serie. Haven't read the novel so this was my frist experience on the storyline. Re-watched it recently and even though the acting from the cast wasn't that great, they pulled it off. I just love Jimmy and Teresa together!

Going to rent a few eps of Dicky and Nicholas's version, but a little afraid. Lol, just looks a bit outrageous. Dying to see Tony's version though! Sounds like that is the most accurate according to the novel.

Actually, Tony and Jimmy version both have their own accuracy to the novel. But the accurate parts are different from both series.

    Big changes are:

Tony version: No Mu Rong Jiu. Zhang Jing is the daughter of Lian Xing. Mu Rong Jiu and Su Ying combines to make Su Ying.

Jimmy version: No Su Ying. YY is in love with Yan Nan Tian. Zhang Jing and Su Ying combines to make Little Hot Pepper.

You can get the Tony and Hugo version at any Speedy Video outlet in KL - it's really good - one of the bright stars in TVB's late-80s trash heap. Kitty Lai played Tie Xinnan, Shalin Tse played Su Ying. Kitty was great, while Shalin wasn't, but it was a decent performance by her standards.

It wasn't as good (at least storywise) compared to the Wong Yuen Sun/Shek Sau version. The 70s version was pretty faithful to the novel in many scenes, but sadly dragged too long. I remember screaming when they dragged the final night before the duel.. I keep hearing Princess YY saying "tomorrow, wthe two of you will duel..." so many times, but it seemed that tomorrow would never come!

The scenes I wanted to see were not done very well in the Tony version, the part with the Ash Bat and Owl murdering all the other treasure hunters, and how the Zodiac were quite scary - at least the snake was. The Tony version also toned the Lion King Tie Jian considerably, making him nothing like how one of the Ten Evils should be like. The Fierce Gambling Ghost was also rather uninspiring, and in general the entire group of Ten Evils were rather wussy - but the story generated its own closure in the end.

Lucky you. How was the 70s version? I heard it was faithful at some points, but then it added like stupid new onside stories such as the whole thing dealing with the royal palace, and also Yao Yue took orders from some female who was better in martial arts and even look better then she does.

I hope Michelle Yim did a good job as Su Ying. Cecilia I can imagine played the role of TXL well. WYS, how was his XYE. His looks and costumes fit the XYE in the novel more I think compared to Tony Leung's.

One thing I like was this story had three characters in whole - Mu Rong Jiu, Su Ying, and Tie Xin Lan. None of that stupid combined crap we see in other JDSJ adaptations. BTW, was Little Fairy Zhang Jing's character in the 70s version, or did they cut her off? If she was there, may I know the actress who played her?

My memory isn't as good as I would like it to be on this - I last watched it about 7 years ago. Still have the old VHS version, although not sure if it's still watchable - need to go back to my old house and get it (moved out when I got married). I'll probably also need to get a VHS player, though... There was this bit about a real Empress and a fake Empress.. Yan Nantian actually caught up with Jiang Feng and his pregnant wife initially and they were all together and safe, but then Yan had to take leave to escort the real Empress somewhere while Jiang Feng and his wife waited for him at the inn, and that was when the Zodiac struck. The real empress somehow got replaced by the fake one, whose martial arts was good enough to kill Yan Nantian eventually. She was the main villain, and finally died when she lost her hand in a trap and had to face XYE, SY, HWJ and TXL's combined forces, I think.

I'm pretty sure there was a Zhang Jing - Murong Jiu (Idy Chan) always had this other girl with her, but I can't for the life of me remember who it was. The supporting cast as far as I can remember were Idy Chan (Murong Jiu), Fung Shuifan (Jiang Qin), Lee Kok Lun (Jiang Yulang), Paul Chu (Jiang Feng), Li Youwai (Flower Slave), Soo Hangsuen (Yao Yue), Lo Hoipang (Gambling Evil), Wong Sun (Big Mouth Li), Wong Man Wai (Fake Empress), Wong Chaosze (poor maid who gets killed by Yaoyue because she giggled at XYE's joke), Lau Hak Seen (Rooster Zodiac), Cheung Chong (Yan Nantian).. it was a very good cast indeed!

Is there actually a good one? The ones I know all sucks. They deviate from the novel too much, and in untasteful manners.
