I have no idea what the second part of your sentence means, but when I started this topic, I was indeed feeling like Qiu Qianren. Trying to gain a peace of mind, but feel like going berserk at times! I think, I can understand how he feels.

Felt like *one* of the Jiangnan Six trying to teach *20* six-year-old Guo Jings martial arts at the same time. I gave my students a test today and the average mark obtained was 29%!

Only 3 kids passed, one of them with 100%.

How hard are pre-school tests?

And why were they graded in the first place?

Very easy ... if you paid attention in class, followed the diagrams (picture-based instructions) given and did your homework.

The subject is Mandarin, and there's a preprinted item in the Report Card that says "Able to write the stroke-sequences of the characters (that are included in the syllabus)". Since the syllabus does not include an adequate mechanism to assess the children's ability to meet this requirement, I have to give the test. Basically, I teach the stroke-sequences and the students practice them in the classroom. Then, they have one week to practice the same at home before the test. Most of the kids who did poorly (and pulled down the average mark) did not do their homework, did not pay attention during the lesson or did not finish the stroke-sequencing practice in the classroom. The one kid who got 100% did the necessary work, that's all.

btw, Han Solo, if you want to find out about the benefits of doing stroke-sequencing from a developmental viewpoint, let me know, and I'll send you the article I wrote about it. Parents of my students have found it useful in understanding purpose of the exercise.

Ekin Cheng wasn't the worst Sai Mun Chui Sheut I've seen, but Wong Yeun Sun (1970s TVB version) *owns* this role.
