i agree. he doesnt even let his desciple learn the 9 yin zhen geng, but he learns it himself. even ZBT has to invent his own left/right technique to be on par w/ the great levels

Totally, 100% disagree.
Central Divinity Wong Chung Yeung declined to teach the 9 Yum Jen Ging to his followers specifically *because* he did not want for it to be said that he was selfish and wanted to hoard the most coveted martial art of the era for his own sect. Wulin was all about legacies. If Wong Chung Yeung had really been selfish, he would have taught the 9 Yum Jen Ging to his most capable followers and then had them destroy the manual, ensuring that the secret of the 9 Yum Jen Ging would be the Cheun Jen Sect's alone for all eternity.
Also, consider this: Chow Bak Tung asked Wong Chung Yeung why the latter didn't just destroy the manual if he were afraid it'd fall into the wrong hands. Wong Chung Yeung's reason is that he still wanted the manual to be available to righteous heroes of future generations (i.e. Gwok Jing). Had Wong Chung Yeung really been selfish, he would have destroyed the manual before he died.
Finally, Wong Chung Yeung never really trained in the 9 Yum Jen Ging manual. He didn't read it out of ambition. He was, however, very curious about the manual and couldn't help satisfying his curiosity. Incidentally, he found some parallel thinking between the 9 Yum Jen Ging and his own martial arts, but his reaction was not one of envy, but of fascination.
"Selfish" is not an adjective that would apply well to Wong Chung Yeung, but it does apply very much to a certain someone that Wong Chung Yeung had been close to during his lifetime.

disagree and I would rather have other people explain it since I'm busy on another thread and forum. Lunar..., I think you're a bit biased against WCY...

That coffin attack of his was quite a gamble. And even when it worked to perfection, it only bought time since even ZBT would not have matched OYF by the time the latter recovered if not for 9 Yin's help.
There is the Big Dipper formation but again, that one was so dependent on having all 7 main disciples present and sticking together all the time. If I was OYF, i'd just sneak attack Sun Bu'er when all 7 are not present.
The third edition made Wang Chongyang look like a complete moron. He supposedly did the world a favor by seizing control of 9 Yin thus preventing unecessary bloodshed, but then turned around and gave this same piece of gem to a stranger who had better drinking skills than him. What the hell was he thinking by placing this important document (which was of history-changing significance) as an object of gambling?!
Sometimes (or maybe: most times), it's better to ignore the third edition changes.
selfish, not really. moron, yes completely and has nothing to do with 3rd edition or certain someone
yes, I agree. Moron=yes for making that stupid gamble. Selfish=no proven with his younger years along with LCY.

Well, perhaps a flawed genius with good intentions was what JY actually wanted to create.
but dont u guys think that WCY never give good skills to his disciple example like heaven plam skills, which results to humilation of the sect. The quan zhen 7 zi skills is damn lousy, not even comparable to a hou du which was shown in ROCH espisode 3.
That's because his disciples were not talented enough to learn the most sophisticated offering of Wang Chongyang. By trying to learn something that they did not have sufficient foundation for, they could endager themselves for fire deviation, as occurred to HSDS Beggar's Union chief Shi Huolong, who suffered severe fire deviation due to learning XL18Z without sufficient internal energy.Originally Posted by xtrioxton
You're basing this on the tv adaptation? Ma Yu, Liu Chuxuan, Qiu Chuji and Wang Chuyi (the senior masters) were very much superior to Huo Du, Da'erba and even Li Mochou. Hao Datong and Sun Bu'er were around Huo Du and Da'erba's level. (source: the novels).Originally Posted by xtrioxton
It was never said that he never taught his pupils his best skills. The Seven Masters only started to train martial arts when they were 30 something. Because of the age limitation, they never reached a high proficiency in Wang's arts. They were not bad, in fact they were head and shoulders above a lot of people (of course, with only handful of exceptions).
And PJ, how many third editions have you read so far?
I am not saying that all changes worked out fine, i.e. DGSD HSDS (Jiuyang flaw), but there were a lot of good changes.
So huge, so hopeless, to conceive
As these that twice befell
Parting is all we know of heaven
And all we need of hell.
