Help Please! Why won't my microphone work?

Hey guys,
I was wondering if you could help me....I'm trying to record something for school with a microphone, and its not working...The mic works (the speakers pick it up and everything), but when I try to record something no sound waves come up! Do you know how to fix it? Thanks in advance!

NO, i'm not singing LYF's blueberry song. I did a little of "jiu yao wo zi wei" and it was really dodgey.

I was going to do LYF's blueberry song! Only besides "mayonaka" I couldn't get any of the Japanese...and I didn't want anyone Japanese to hate me for pronouncing everything wrong. Then I thought about doing "Eyes on Me," but poor Faye Wong's already gotten her song butchered once. Gee, 0-0-0, why're you trying out LYF songs? Actually, I think I'm going to stick with LYF's, since I don't want to butcher anything that was GOOD.

I used to have the same problem when I first bought my mic. Now if only I could remember how I solved it... Anyway, I'll tell you if I remember. Why don't you try another program in the mean time?

I have the same problem, I can hear what people say but noone can hear me. It must be something wrong with the soundcard driver.

sing the chinese version, "泡芙女孩" No japanese, but the bad english remains.

How are you connecting the mic to the PC? Maybe you inserted the mic into the wrong port.

Red, open your 'sounds and audio devices', go to the input selections and play around with it. Also, did you test your sound and microphone when you first installed it? There is a place where you can go test it on your computer. It'll walk you through a step by step process which will help you balance your mic level. I'm not exactly sure how to get there at the moment. If you're still having problems just PM me and I'll go home and find out how to do it.

I highly suggest find another sound recording programs, like Microsoft OneNote if you are having trouble in hearding yourself.
If you click on your volume->Options-> Advance, there should be a microphone volume setting. Please, uncheck the microphone because it is muted. This should give you a clear idea, how you really sound. I had been through this before. Hope this helps!

What Operating System are you using?

I am guessing XP.

So here goes...

Go to Start > Settings > Control Panel > Sound, Speech, and Audio devices > Sound and Audio Devices > Click on the Audio tab. You will see "Sound Recording", make sure you have a device selected, then click on Volume. Make sure Line In and Microphone volume is up! Then on the bottom there a Check box. Make sure you check either the Line In or the Microphone(If you plug your microphone to the Line In in the back of your computer, check Line In. If you plug to the Microphone slot, Check Microphone.) Try both to see which one works.

I have a small home-recording studio so this should work.

Also, If you want a better quality sound, get another program. I recommend Adobe Audition, it's easy to use. If you're an aspiring artist/singer, I recommend Cubase SX and Pro Tools 7. The learning curve is much steeper, but both programs are powerful enough to produce the type of quality you expect from a studio producer.

Hey thanks for your help. I was having problem with my mic too cos I couldn't connect to ym voice with my new headphone/mic. I thought of buying a new one cos I thought my device got problem. Lucky for me, I read your post here and save me some money
