    Default Food

As some of you may know, I was deeply saddened when my first food thread was closed (thanks for the spamming guys ). I have finally regained the courage to create a second one that will hopefully remain academic in nature. (After all, as I said before, food is an element of culture and a culinary art.)

I don't know if you guys missed my food quotes, but I'll bring back the educational ones (no sex ones):

Nothing would be more tiresome than eating and drinking if God had not made them a pleasure as well as a necessity. - the great Enlightenment thinker Voltaire

The belly rules the mind. - Spanish Proverb

All sorrows are less with bread. - from Don Quixote, by Miguel de Cervantes

Some thoughtful discussion questions (from my previous thread, so these probably have been answered)...
    - What are your favourite foods?
    - What countries have the best cuisine?
    - What foods are absolutely disgusting?
    - Are you good at cooking? (No) Do you follow the recipe or do you prefer adjusting your cooking to your personal preferences?
    - Can you crack an egg with one hand? (I need to learn to do that sometime)
    - How are people ever anorexic when food tastes so good?
    - Why is food an important part of you?

    Also feel free to share...
    - Any recipes (please do share!! I was waiting on a certain curry recipe, I believe )
    - Cooking tips (for people like Sparky who love food but suck at cooking)
    - Instructions on how to crack an egg with one hand
    - Pictures of any particularly delicious foods -- however, do WRITE something to supplement your pictures so they don't get counted as spam
    - Any particularly good/bad restaurants
    - Any nutritional info regarding food, eating schedules, etc.
    - Any cultural experiences regarding food -- good and bad
    - Arguments as to why food is not academic -- so Sparky can rebutt them

Enjoy your food discussion and try to avoid spamming (as much as possible)

What are your favourite foods? Butter Chicken Curry, Inarizushi, good old fashioned spaghetti, kimchi, zha jiang mian
    - What countries have the best cuisine? China and Japan
    - What foods are absolutely disgusting? things like congealed pig's blood jelly and monkey's brains
    - Are you good at cooking? I'm okay.
    - Do you follow the recipe or do you prefer adjusting your cooking to your personal preferences? Everyone says I add too much sugar into my dishes
    - Can you crack an egg with one hand? No. Nor can I do the pan-flipping trick
    - How are people ever anorexic when food tastes so good? Maybe they grew up eating overcooked, bad food so figured they weren't missing out on much
    - Why is food an important part of you? Because I am what I eat!

    - Any nutritional info regarding food, eating schedules, etc. If you want to lose wait, don't eat a late dinner
    - Any cultural experiences regarding food -- On my trip to China, I ate sandworms in jelly. These family friends ordered it, and my mother tried to lie to me by saying they weren't worms, they were noodles, but I overhead the others discussing the similarities of sandworms to earthworms. I still ate the whole thing was so proud of myself, I think I can be a contestant on fear factor

    Default Godiva cheesecakes

Han Solo, I WOULD protest that my last thread wasn't that filled with spam compared to other spcnet threads, but it wouldn't be a wise action In fact, when I saw you had been the last poster in this thread, I was afraid my thread had been cloed already.

MONKEY'S BRAINS? Where'd you find that?

Actually, I don't think eating exotic animals that would pass FDA regulations is as gross as something like expired milk from three years ago.

According to the 3-Hour Diet, you should eat every three hours and have dinner three hours before you sleep. I'm skeptical about it being super effective...it's not like cheesecake has less calories and saturated fat at 6 than it does at midnight.

I was wondering if any of you had ever been to the Cheesecake Factory...this thread lacks the pics of the old thread (although remember to include some text to go along this time )...

A Godiva Chocolate Cheesecake from The Cheesecake Factory

Anyway, if we take Sugar's favourite food, cheesecake, and put it with my personal favourite (Godiva chocolates), it makes quite a delightful dessert. When I went to the states, one of my favourite things was the Cheesecake Factory, which they don't have in Canada. An example of finer dining, the Cheesecake Factory has VERY BIG ENTREES. Their meal entrees are very good, but my favourite part was the Godiva cheesecake. Godiva has the best chocolate in the world, and cheesecakes have always been enjoyable (although loaded in saturated fat ). What do you think, dears?

my sister had the godiva cheesecake the last time she was at cheesecake factory, and she was like, that's the best cake i've ever had! i was mildly insulted bc she's implying that that professionally made cake with fine ingredients is better than those awesome from the box cakes that i make!

when i go to the cheesecake factory, i usually eat half my meal and save the rest for lunch the next day. that way, i have room for dessert.

i've made cheesecake before, and after that experience, i never really want to eat cheesecake again. do you guys know how much cream cheese goes into one of those?!

i eat alot of fatty stuff, i do gain weight but on a serious note, if you don't eat junk food then it's ok to stuff those regular food down. by junk food i mean like coke, chips, cookies ect... the thing with those is that you don't get full when you eat them, for example i ate a whole box of cookies while watching a game, 80 cal per cookies, i counted atleast 40 in the box, i basically ate 3200 cals in just 2 hours. that's 1.5 days of cals in my regular schedule. if i had ate 1 piece of a cheese cake, then there'll be none left, so say i ate 1000 cal from that cheese cake, i'lm still ahead of the game.

1 serving of cheese cake = ~100 calories, that's not bad at all.

also young bodies process toxin better than old bodies, so eat while you're young, when you get old it'll get harder to eat fatty food.

oh, and i've had records of eating crazy when i'm watching TVs, my best record is to chew down a box of chocolate bars (snickers), i'm talking about the 24 or 40 counts Cosco Box... that was some rediculous stuff haha. i don't eat pizza but when i'm bore i eat alot of chocolate and cookies (stuff that i don't eat on a regular basis)... i think i ate 4 big mac before i went to badminton practice once, man, after 30min of running in the gym i had to go do #2 in a hurry. lesson of the day, don't eat 4 big mac and start running around hitting birdies.

lol what cheesecake have you been eating? Cheesecake is NOT that low-calorie. Think about it - if a Nutri-Grain bar is 140 calories and those Nabisco diet packs are 100 calories, then a slice of cheesecake is bound to be more. It's at least ~250. My friends bought me a Starbucks cheesecake once, and then I read that it was like 700 calories in ONE slice. So I highly doubt your 100 calorie estimate is correct.

I think I gain weight, just not easily lol. I'm also a really hyper person so I probably burn half my calories just through jaw movements.

OMG I HATE THAT. Jennie I totally empathise! The other day I was eating a biscotti - it's not like it was monkey brain or anything. And everyone was asking "What the hell are you eating?" I was like, "What planet are you from? Have you ever heard of a biscotti??"

Although I must say, your urge to spit in people's eyes is rather unique. I don't think I would do that. Usually I'm a nonviolent person 0=) and my words suffice

Aww pem, if everyone preferred your box cakes over professionally-made cakes, then I think places like the Cheesecake Factory would go out of business! However, since you've made cheesecake before, I'm curious as to how difficult it is (to do well, of course). I think I'm going to make a cheesecake for a special person sometime.

As for the cream cheese estimate, I'd say at least a pound?

Missy, you depressed me! Each time that I want to try something that looks soooo delicious you bring up the calories count, and ruined my appetite!!!! No more mentioning about calories. I want to be able to enjoy a slice of Godiva cheesecake or a Godiva shakes next time without feeling guilty of how it’s going to affect my ***.

i believe it matters since your metabolic system will treat those saturated fats differently depending on what your body does (starve, sleep, etc). still, i don't follow it .

the cheesecake factory's entrees are decent but not superb (though i do like their breadsticks). i usually go and split an appetitzer (maybe entree), then head straight for the dessert. kekekeke

Honey, don't worry so much. Real women have curves, right? If you're always worrying how are you going to polish off a pint of Haagen Dazs when we watch Troy with GuGu?

I was actually talking about this cheesecake I got from Starbucks, not the Godiva one that I posted. But you actually got me curious as to how many calories are in the Godiva one...and then I went on calorieking.com and 800 CALORIES in one slice of the 7" pie (860 for the 10"). I REFUSE TO BELIEVE IT! Calorieking is just anti-Godiva so they post high calories for Godiva-related foods.

By the way, anyone here a Starbucks addict?

yes, and it pisses me off even more when they have that "disgust" look on their faces..and usually, it's the whites just because it doesn't look like chicken or steak to them

n ah. i'm only thinking of spitting in their eyes, not actually doing it ^^ only when i do get REAL mad that i tell them to **** off or they will be feeling some pain in their eyeballs so usually when ppl ask what i'm eating, i give them a cold look n say "ur mom".

I don't get what the obsession with cheesecake is. I'm partially lactose intolerant and can't stand any dairy products (except for ice cream). Whenever I smell cheesecake, I feel queasy.

Food can be a pursuit of life, and cooking/baking/enjoying food requires knowledge.

As long as all posts in this thread is related to food, this thread can remain open.
