Yes, HZGG 1-3 were all originally written by Qiong Yao, who has a tendency to adapt her books into television series. I believe that HZGG I is a three-book series, HZGG II is a five-book series (god help us), and HZGG III (eww) is a three-book series. Qiong Yao was involved in both writing the original novels and the production of the series.

hzgg 1 was the best! 2 was ok 3 was the only reason that kept me watching it was liu tao and zhou jie...i cant stand leo ku and betty...disliked the new zhi wei too...not to mention that old emperor ding long...definitely far from zhang tie lin

apparently though she wrote the scripts for the dramas first then wrote the books later. bit of a reverse process but yeah there are books. I've read the parts I and II (in translation, vietnamese obviously) but not part III yet. I dont think I want to read part III.

I can't stand HZGGIII. But I love Wang Yan. I wish the original cast came back.

I never watched 3... didn't want to destroy my memories of the first one, which i liked. The second one was so-so... Wang Yan was great though. Other than that... hm... Xiang Fei was gorgeous too, pity she died

Same here....after reading all the negative reviews for Tian Shang Ren Jian, I decided not to watch it. I mean, just seeing the new emperor was And I really DON'T LIKE Leo Ku...he's annoying. Why did they switch all the good casts and keep the bad one (Zhou Jie-sorry, don't like him; think his acting is WAY too exaggerated)? But at least they kept Qing'er!

i agree except for zhou jie i like him despite being exaggerated i hate leo ku! i never liked his performance even in qin sheng sheng yu meng meng..his mushiness is just too fake n disgusting imo

Oh dear, Zhou Jie. Don't get me started. Remember LOCH '03? Yeah, well HZGG wasn't much better. This is one of my all-time fave series, but I think we should have a HZGG thread for me to blow off steam.

HZGG 3 sucked. Those of you who haven't watched it, don't. I mean, what happened to Yong Qi? Alec Su was never the hottest guy but he looked way better than Leo Ku! The only high point is seeing Shui Ling and Liu Tao.

I still watch reruns of this although I had a problem with half the characters. I also fast forwarded through all the Er Kang and Zi Wei scenes - yeah, we get that you love each other, can we move on? It's almost 10 years later. I cannot believe it's been this long...I'm so old now!!! And still underage!
