The color of the roof of nearly all convertible cars is black. Why is this?

The convertible top is something you don't wash often so being black, it'll "appear" cleaner. But that's only my assumption. Maybe there's a more economic reason for the color.
My top is black and I wouldn't have it any other way.I would love to change the world, but they won't give me the source code.
