Default Duration of Wuxia Storylines: Your Preference

Some wuxia stories, such as Jin Yong's CONDOR HEROES TRILOGY novels, play out over the course of decades. Others such as DGSD and SPW, resolve themselves in a few years (i.e. less than a decade). A number of Gu Long stories, such as the LUK SIU FUNG stories, sometimes resolve themselves in just weeks or even days.

    What's your preference?

I personally like decade because we get to see people change and develop. Just look at YG and the Greats in ROCH.
On the other hand, we see don't much change to any developed people like XF, DY, XZ in DGSD. 2 of the 3 may have suddenly changed to godly fighters, but the characters of the 3 didn't develop or change much.

I'd say a few years since it doesn't drag on forever, but it doesn't jus tend abruptly either

I wonder if there are any wuxia stories that resolve themselves in just a few hours.

That would be most interesting. The book might not necessarily be short, but wouldn't the author have nothing much interesting to write about? Try to imagine what you can do in a day. I certainly cannot think of anything interesting.

I prefer stories that have a duration of a few years. This is mainly because I would like to see more character development and also probably more characters involved. It really depends on how they write the few years though. A few years passing in just a few lines certainly doesn't show much at first.

Well, there's been this television show that's been popular for a few years called "24" that you've probably heard of...

A number of suspense, mystery, spy, and thriller novels resolve themselves over the course of a single evening or day. I can't see why it couldn't be done for wuxia.

I've heard of Huang Yi stories that last shorter than a day.

    Haven't read any of them

I really don't care about the time span of the storyline. All I want is a well written good to read storyline.

Take Sword of the Yeuh Maiden for example, I think the main part of the story spanned just a few days to a few weeks, and it was a good story.

    How about a nanosecond?

Those stories that last for a day doesn't include much character development and training which is what I want to see.

Jin Yong's Flying Fox of Snowy Mountain takes place over a day.. but a bulk of the book consists of flashbacks.
