Default Why did 1 Deng decide to settle down in Hundred Flowers Valley near CBT and Ying Goo?

The most bitter chapter of South Emperor Deun Chi Hing's life is when his concubine Ying Goo had an affair with Chow Bak Tung while the emperor trained the 1 Yeung Finger Technique in seclusion with Central Divinity Wong Chung Yeung. The affair, the subsequent murder by Kau Cheen Yan of Chow and Ying's bastard son, and the emperor's hesitation to heal the child (which might have ended up costing the child his life) tormented Deun for years, even after he became the Buddhist monk 1 Deng.

Many decades later, thanks to Yeung Gor and Gwok Seung's intervention, 1 Deng, Chow Bak Tung, and Ying Goo were able to make peace with the mistakes of the past and with each other. That said, why did 1 Deng choose to settle down near Chow Bak Tung and Ying Goo? Just because they buried the hatchet at long last doesn't mean they necessarily wanted to face each other day in, day out as neighbors. As a former emperor of Dali, wouldn't 1 Deng have preferred to spend his final years back in his homeland?

    for company

and they are so happy together after all that passed between them. would you go back to a rich place that is lonely and unhappy to spend your final days, when you could have a lifelong friend and treasured companion beside you for the rest of your remaining life?

Dali is has been crushed by the Mongolians and fell. It doesn't exist anymore, so how can Yideng go back to his homeland?

Why didn't he defend his homeland when it happened. With his martial art, he could try to kill the general of his enemy. If he succeeded, he could reverse the situation.

That hadn't happened yet as of the end of ROCH. Dali fell to the Mongols shortly before the Fall of Seung Yeung Fortress (and in fact, was one of the main reasons that Seung Yeung finally fell, as the Sung defenders got outflanked), thirteen years after the end of ROCH.
