Default Did Luk Siu Fung and Sai Mun Chui Sheut's friendship change after THE DUEL?

Luk Siu Fung and Sai Mun Chui Sheut's friendship seemed to peak during the events of THE DUEL. In the days before Sai Mun Chui Sheut dueled Yip Goo Sing, the extent of his friendship with Luk Siu Fung was well-explored and it was clear that the two men had a great amount of trust and respect for one another.

But was it all downhill from there?

Sai Mun Chui Sheut showed up very briefly at the end of the next LUK SIU FUNG story, THE SILVER HOOK CASINO saga. Sai Mun Chui Sheut showed up briefly at the very end of that story to help Luk Siu Fung against the Sui Hon Three Friends, as Luk was counting on. Sai Mun Chui Sheut left with a cryptic comment, however, that now he owed Luk Siu Fung nothing (or something to that effect). Sai Mun seemed colder towards Luk Siu Fung than he had in THE DUEL or the GOLDEN ROC KINGDOM'S TREASURE saga.

In the story following SILVER HOOK CASINO, the HAUNTED VILLA, Luk Siu Fung and Sai Mun Chui Sheut were openly opposing one another...although it was a simulated conflict designed to fool the Wooden Taoist/Old Sabre Tyrant into exposing his plot. The conflict might have been simulated, but Luk Siu Fung and Sai Mun Chui Sheut, especially, treated it as if it were real. Did their friendship ever fully recover from this incident?

i believe that after Yip Goo Sing died, SMXC had a lack of worthy opponents, and he decided that LXF would be the best opponent he had left, so he became colder to him so he could later have a reason to duel with him.

oh yes, the friendship actually improved. sai mun chui suet actually took the initiative to find the truth and hunt the killer after news spread that luk siu fung was murdered. (book 7)

and don't forget that drinking song that luk siu fung sang to sai mun chui suet. book 6, i think. if you've watched the tvb series, the theme song of the 3rd installment actually uses the words directly from the book, set to music by joseph koo kar fai.

One of my all-time favorite wuxia theme songs. I noticed that the lyrics actually appeared in one of the LUK SIU FUNG novels, as on the lyric sheet from the old Adam Cheng album, the lyrics are credited to somebody else (not Gu Long).

yeah, i usually see wong tsim's name associated with that song. it's strange: i always felt the song was atypical wong tsim; then i found out who the true lyricist was. it was a true "ah-ha!" moment.

    here're the lyrics:

    《陸小鳳》之《武當之戰》主題曲: 誓要入刀山 Must Enter Peril
曲: 顧嘉輝 Joseph Koo Ka Fai
    詞: 古龍 Gu Long
    唱: 鄭少秋 Adam Cheng

I've always wondered: did Luk Siu Fung lie to Sai Mun Chui Sheut before the duel with Yip Goo Sing when Luk told Sai Mun that Sai Mun's sword was the only weapon in the world that Luk's Ling Sai 1 Finger couldn't stop? Luk did stop Yip Goo Sing's Teen Ngoi Fei Seen not once, but twice with his Ling Sai 1 Finger, and as the duel demonstrated, Yip was actually a slightly better swordsman than Sai Mun at the time. Luk's intention was clearly to boost his friend's confidence before the duel for his life, but did Luk lie to Sai Mun?

Actually, what he said was that he had confidence in stopping nearly anything in the world with his two fingers. The only sword he didn't have confidence in stopping was Ximen Chuixue's!

It was more of a morale booster than a lie.

Logically, however, if Luk Siu Fung could halt Yip Goo Sing's Teen Ngoi Fei Seen, then he should also be able to halt Sai Mun Chui Sheut's sword, as the two swordsmen were quite nearly equals.

Probably true. Like I said, it was a morale booster more than anything else ^^

In the later LUK SIU FUNG stories, it seemed as if Luk really had lied to Sai Mun about not being able to stop his sword because Luk actually did it on a few occassions...and this is after Sai Mun's skills had improved greatly from the level Sai Mun was at during THE DUEL.

I think their friendship and the level of Ximen's sword skills are subject to change depending on how much XO Gu Long had drunk during the actual time of writing....

Saves me the headache. Everytime something doesn't make sense in a Gu Long novel, just blame the XO.
