    Default School Final exams

Isn't there a thread or place to whine about school around here?! I'm in college, an accounting major. We just finished the last of finals today, this was the semester from hell for me!! All the classes I had this fall had a huge piece of your final grade being decided out the outcome of the final, it really suck since 2 out of 3 classes was really hard and the 1 remaining class was just time consuming where you spend most of the time doing lots of work for little points and the final being about half of your final grade. To make it worst grades don't have to be in until after the graduation ceremony so we seniors are waiting in suspense, it's driving me insane!! Especially for the tests I had in last week's class because it was so hard and I would throw my self a party if I passed it. I'm just too stressed out with these classes and what made matters worst if it wasn't bad enough was I had a project due before my test day and cause the group bailed when we had all this time with a member wondering off to do it herself without telling me and another person making empty promises. Totally wasted time I could have been studying for tests I'm so mad just going over the chapter that had the problem our group was assigned to makes me so mad. I'm more upset with the person that didn't do what we agreed on than the person who decided to do her own project separately. I stayed up hours doing things that she should have helped me on that really affected our grades on it because I didn't do things in advance wasting time on that person. She has the nerves to act like she deserve any part of it and bothers me for answers to study questions for the final, I'm not wasting any study time to answer questions for someone so lazy they can't even look things up in the index!!

It annoys me when people ask you questions when they can easily look it up in their textbook or have been taught in the course over and over. There is such a thing as a stupid question.

Teamwork wise - I get annoyed in a group project, when some individuals want to do everything their way and then complain about being stressed and overworked. Also annoyed at people who do absolutely nothing. I guess in most teams there will always be a whining workaholic and sideline observer.

Can I gripe from the other side of the table --- as a teacher? Lazy students, tardy students and students who simply can't be bothered about the course annoy me to no end. Parents who can't be bothered to pay attention to their children despite the children receiving written warnings on unsubmitted assignments (and cc'd to parents) sadden me a lot. Most of my students who failed their finals this year come from one of these groups.

    what grade u teach?

and final exams.............. should be studying rite now, but for some reason im on here. i hate it when the whole course depends on the final exam too.... but the thing for me is, my teachers (yes more than 1 ) grades on improvement. so ifmy grade on my final is above my average, they'll take that grade that gives me motivation to do better since ive been doing poorly all quarter long. and usually my teachers dont do this, i must be lucky this quarter

I never really liked group project when i was at uni, i meant that some ppl contribute more than others and some are better than others, but everyone is the group gets the same point!

And the worse thing is that, even if you are right, you get dumbed down by the majority!

Oh wait, that's lreal life too.

my college was really big on group work. my most horrible team were just rascist a-holes. they were all white, and i was the lonely minority. they used to talk about black ppl and how they were glad that our school doesn't have many, except the custodial staff. and they would refer to me in the third person right in front of my face. like, while 2 feet away from me, this girl would say to another, i don't think she should do this part. and she can do this part. it's like, uh, hello!!!! right here, biznitches!!!! and when scheduling meetings, they'd all agree on a time, and i'd be like, but i have class. and they'd say, ok, we'll just meet without you. -_- i tried complaining to the professor, but she's like, oh, you'll meet people like that in real life. just try to do the best you can. gee, great. thanks a bunch.

Well, I am going to poor my rant. You think thats bad, well this semester we had so much work to do, its not funny at all. I think in total, from the first day of this semester til today, end of the semester. We had to put up with alot of rigorious hard work. When I mean hardwork, I mean it. Its basically, Strategic Management undergrad course, in a group deciding on the company you want, but must meet the requirements of minimum 90+pgs. [lots of editing back and forth, exchanging emails; total of 40-50emails]. On top of the hard research, you must hand in an 70-100pg individual paper or you failed the entire course. Even if, you worked so hard on the team projects. I am not lying about it, I've completed it all with my fellow classmates; so happy now its all done.

Now in the team projects/individual projects, there are financial ratios, some more finance stuff, alot of strategic scenerio's[must be realistic], alot of tools to analyze the company on how to fix it, and much more. I think the max amount of time, as a team; I've spent like 200+hrs working on it. It sure does gives me nightmares to know, if you don't hand in the individual paper you fail.

Also, my professor is very good listener; everything you missed on, he will harp it on you and say,"Why you missed here and here." Especially, in presentating it, we took about 1hr:45mins max for the presentation of Part I. The part II was like 30mins.

Yeah, I checked with other undergraduate courses and no other schools has been through this before, its so painful. However, I only got one more final and I am graduating

ahh, business school. most business schools require teams of 3-5 students to make a viable business plan and present it for an hr and a half. with some nominal prize at stake. ours was 100 pages and many many hours of frustration. just about every school has one, and they always talk about how it's so special and difficult and much better than any other school's big project, when, in reality, they're all pretty mucht he same. yesasia was actually the project of some stanford students. now if only someone would buy my team's crapalicious idea of a rubber glove with sponges on it. -_-

But, its very useful one day; you can apply it to in other areas of concentrations. Not gone to waste.

There are quite a few articles and such going around about how companies are starting to HATE MBA student because their so self-aggrandizing and pompous, they actually don't work well with others, making them useless.

Yeah, the reason why is that because many people does not have good communication skills; while companies wants MBA students to work well with others. If your circle is me, me , me, me. Organizations dislike this, plus MBA students received their degree will brag and shove it in your face is also a turn off.

I think more organizations are happy to hear people who's willing to accept others ideas, regardless which race, gender, etc. Also allowing everyone's inputs into a team project and try to make it constructively fit into the given task. All organizations work as a group, not always individual thinking because its not productive enough to allow the company to grow. In the past, in working in groups I've tried my best by allowing others to share their views without ignoring it. This is so important on how each person feel or deal with this problem. We all hate to hurt someone's feelings, but it is a tough judgment call; at times its not. Companies are looking for these type of worker, which is very hard to find.

i think there are definitely some mbas who are all like, lookie at my badazz mba yo! in yo face, what what!!! but i think one of the biggest benefits of having an mba is making contacts in school and learning to work well with others. those are the people who are really successful.

If you're naturally a byatch or a**wipe, you're gonna be one whether you have an MBA or not. Nowadays so many people have that degree it doesn't mean much.

Group work definitely has its drawbacks. I am amazed how adults going to business school can have absolutely no ability to remember commitments. Yeah I know some ppl work PT too, but all you gotta do is punch in a reminder in your PDA or cellphone or whatever.

On the other hand, group work also lets you get to know new people (if you decide to form groups with new ppl and not stick with the same ppl over and over again) better than you otherwise would, so that's a good point.

I guess groupwk is just what you make it to be.

My advice to this, for future reference. When work in groups and got the ability to pick them up ASAP. If you don't then your screwed, now is that bad or good? Its like a double-edged sword, the people who you might not want to pick, might afterall be good. Here is why, each person has their own skills and weakness. If you able to know what they are, then allocate each person to do a particular task correctly, then bingo your group will succeed. Because your team is the last one to be picked, then your chances are they will stand out the most, as the "Think outside the Box" people. Trust me, listening to the same PPT is so boring, well your team can do that.

As for the downside, yeah you must be serious about what your doing, if you are not; then people will not listened to you. When you create an image of success, well because you wanted to achieve success, then everyone will most likely listened to any requests. However, you must have team consensus, I highly recommend this. Everyone's input creates new ideas and conflicts. The conflicts helps build or rebuild structure to make the group more better and forms collective group thinking. Most jobs are looking, for this kind of thing; efficiency, efficiency, efficiency, and innovative ideas, etc. Can you really do all this? yes, you can.

Now, all those years of failed teams; I've been in, helped me figured out a way to avoid this stuff, in the near future. If its obivious to fix them, then go and do that again and again; it will smooth it all out to make it more nice and neat.
