    Default what is/was your major?

ok, be honest.. how many of you chose a major or a career path based on the $$ you will be making?
none of u i hope haha. i've heard many people choosing something simply because of the earnings, but they dread work everyday. i know, every 'work' is dreadful but u know what i mean.

anyways, yeeeeahhhhhh. im still a youngin' so i don't have to declare a major JUST yet, but i've been thinking about it alot and jumping back and forth so i hope some of you OG's can maybe give a few inspirational words LMFAO.

ok, first of all, i'm not going to choose something i have no interest in whatsoever-- even if i'm going to make $300k a year. no interest just means i'm going to waste my time and my precious life away and i won't succeed.

second of all, i'm shallow (everybody is anyways) and i like the finer things in life so i would like to choose a career path that both suits my interests and makes about $50k year start-off. hey, maybe as i'm working i do such a fantastic job that i keep getting promoted and the paycheck keeps getting bigger
    jK.
but yeah, that's not too much to ask is it? and i'm sure alot of people would agree that it's the best way to go.

so now that i've got that cleared out of the way, the 2 majors i'm jumping between is Government and Finance. these 2 seems to intrigue me the most so i'm having a hard time deciding. which major is "better" in your opinion?

my mom was so opposed to the idea when i told her i was going into the business field she kept telling me how it's very competitive and you'll get a lot of headaches haha. which can be true >_>

and oh, i suck at math btw. maybe that's one of the reason why the Finance major is holding me back.

I got a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science (or BS in CS for short). Believe it or not, I really do enjoy writing codes and developing software and designing systems. The fact that the IT industry pays a lot was just icing on the cake.
I would love to change the world, but they won't give me the source code.

When I graduate, I'll have a B.S in Physics, B.A in math, a minor in Photography, Jazz and Japanese. I think I enjoy being an undergrad too much.

For the record though, I have switch my major a total of three times.

Your majors and minors are like total opposits. I had thought that you majored in music form your posts in the forum.

I actually did major in music for a two semesters. I really love music but the physics kept luring me in so I decided to minor in music instead.

How much is a lot of money?

Let's say you're in IT and get 100K a year. For the 100k, you have to work an average of 60-70 hours per week, which comes about $29-35 an hour. After the IRS takes a 1/3 of it, you only get about 4k a month. That's not a lot of money because you don't have much time for your friends and family. You constantly on the edge because sh!t breakdown or don't work and have to fix it by asap. Projects have to meet the deadline.

Don't go into IT if you aren't like crazyT who enjoys his work. They will work you like dog. Unless you are an expert or specialized in certain area or good with people, you ain't getting the big bucks.

What made you change your mind?

I was the only one among my group of friends that didn't change my major. Everyone changed their mind at least one or twice, but my best friend was the worse. She changed her mind every other year…the first year, she wanted to be an Accountant...the second year, a Social Worker or a Teacher, and finally, she graduated with a degree in Business Management. Needless to say, neither of us is working directly in the field that we studied. And this is also very common. I have read somewhere that over 50% of college graduates do not work in jobs within their studied field, once they graduated.

i think i changed my mind due to loss of interest idk, i was so damn sure i was gona do business for the rest of my life! but as i took up a few business courses, i realized that it wasn't for me. gives me a headache and i was not feeling all the case studies, powerpoints, and group presentations. i'm better off with reading the information from a book, understanding it and applying it to the real-world ya know? and i'm currently taking a business law class but somehow, my professor always talk about "politics" and "the law" and i actually find myself intrigued by the subject but who knows, i might end up switching my major again next semester! i'm a really indecisive person

    and what was ur major?
