Default OT: Big win for Chinese MA in MMA world

    http://msn.foxsports.com/boxing/story/7970944/Le-breaks-Frank-Shamrock's-arm,-wins-his-belt

Many of you had stated in the past that Chinese MA wouldn't cut it in modern MA competitions but someone has finally shown that isn't true.

Cung Le, a former competitor in Sanshou and Wushu competitions, scored a decisive victory over Frank Shamrock today. Shamrock is a MMA legend who hadn't lost in a decade. Before the fight, many MMA experts were skeptical of Le because he had previously competed only in Chinese MA events.

He broke the guys arm? I'm actually quite impressed since Le took a few hits himself.

The kicks to the Shamrock's head might have been even more damaging. Le landed cleanly 2 kicks right on Shamrock's noggin at the end of the fight. Shamrock was clearly dazed after that barrage. MMA competitors sometimes carry on with broken limbs but it's impossible for anyone to fight if he's too woozy to keep standing.

Leviathan has propounded the efficiency of San Shou in a MA fight before. Many years before.

maybe a big victory for chinese martial arts in general but definetly not for traditional MA.

How much fighting concepts does sanshou truly borrow from traditonal chinese martial arts? Their kicks are borrowed from Takwando and Muaythai. Especially their round house kicks which has the full hip rotation and shin as the point of contact. That said Sanshou is a HUGE step in the right direction, with sparring, conditioning and a practical fighting stance. Definetly hope more Sanshou guys will participate in MMA and help it grow!

Also, Shamrock was over the hill in this fight and did not make any serious attempts to take Lee to ground. Critics were skeptical of Lee because he has yet to prove himself a capable ground fighter. I would love to see him up against a Lindland or Henderson and see how he does.
wow..04-08....4 years just like that..time flies..

Cung Le was in town for an autograph session a while back....too bad I was working. But from what I've seen, it does seem like Le is more influenced by Muaythai than any Chinese MA.
