Among the various princes of Dali surnamed Deun who appeared in Jin Yong's stories, three served as emperors of Dali during their lifetimes (although not necessarily during the times of their narratives in the Jin Yong novels): Deun Jing Ming, Deun Yu, and Deun Chi Hing.

Of the three Dali Deun emperors, who was the best national leader? Disregard their martial arts abilities and their management of their personal relationships. Consider only their achievements as national leaders.

Believe it or not, this goes to Duan Yu. Duan Zhengming was a great Emperor, but he abdicated relatively early on in his reign. Duan Zhixing probably was as well, but also abdicated due to the Ying Gu affair. Only Duan Yu had a full, illustrious reign.
