Note to self: if my future son ends up a whiny "humanitarian" bastard like TC, I'm sending him to Commie China's athlete camp.

NOTE: i didn't read any of the articles.

a relative of mine was an athlete "groomed" by china, back in like the 60s. he made it onto one of the national teams for a relatively well known sport (not ping pong). he played for a few years, didn't make a lot of money, but it was a better than decent living. afterwards, he just went back to his normal life for a few years before immigrating to the US. he's really never said anything negative about the government or the training programs, but he really bonded with his teammates and had lots of fun.

another mother of a friend of a friend was a province champ in ping pong in the 70s, and she never said anything negative about her training either.

Next time quote the whole post, and address the entire post. Don't go off on a tangent based on one sentence. Clearly, being unemployed and pretty poor still gives you access to internet - don't compare yourself to the examples in my original post.

Cristal entity already addressed your original whinge. How much support does Western society offer to its athletes post retirement? Most end up like normal people too, relying on their other skills to earn a living. If people don't figure out most sporting endeavors aren't going to make a life long earning, why should society pay for it?

Ok, just let this go as it's not important for the debate.

There is a big difference between western society and china. Western society does not trick the children to join government run sport school and training them rigorously to win medals for the country. According to the article, these athletes learn pretty much nothing except the chosen sport that they are training every day. When they got major injuries and no longer can win medals, the government just dismiss them with little compensation. How do you expect these athletes to adapt to society without the government help if all they know is the sport that they trained while injured. If you haven't, please read the article that kidd provided http://www.china.org.cn/english/sports/165927.htm then you will see what I am talking about. If you still think what the chinese government does to their athletes is fair and square then be it.

Did you participate in any sports activities? If so, did you compete in any competition and did you achieve success?

Different countries, different systems. The system in China is not perfect, but I believe many athletes are being taken care by the country. I know athletes are encouraged to study in areas of their interest, but most would choose their sport. I met a few that did not make to their respective provincial teams, went to school, got their degrees, became coaches/teachers in schools and universities.

Western societies entice kids in different ways. If you have time and are interested enough, find some information on the internet how football (soccer) clubs deal with young prospective players. It may surprise you... Italy alone has tens of thousands of teenagers from Africa (not to mention from other countries) on the streets after failing to make to the teams.

On the employment side, I was laid off after spending 13 years with an international corporation, but lucky to get a job after 7 months of searching. Wish you the best of luck in your job hunt.

How did little Goku become so strong??? Well he was already strong in the first place so the question is How did little Krillin became so strong??? First he came to Master Roshi.... Than Master Roshi took him to an Island. Than they did old school training without any gym equipment.

Maybe we should take a lesson from this instead of relying on modern equipment to build up our body strength
