Default Was Yeung Hong a compelling villain?

I've heard opinions regarding the quality of Yeung Hong as a villain in LOCH ranging from his being the one of the greatest and most complex villains in wuxia to his being an overrated blunderer in *way* over his head. Where do you stand on Yeung Hong as a villain?

I love the guy. I wouldn't call him a complex character but I find his ambition and constant scheming very endearing. He's always out there with goals, and making plans to reach them, and doing stuff that furthers them, instead of just reacting to what his enemies do or going along with the situations in front of him. (I like heroes that are like that even better, but for some reason in most fiction it's only the bad guys who go proactive.) As for how competent he was, my take on him was that he was both very smart AND always in over his head because his fatal flaw was a consistent habit of biting off more than he could chew.

I also think people give him too much crap for sticking by Wanyan Honglie and not enough crap for murdering a bunch of peasants (to get Mei Chaofeng to teach him 9yin claw).

    Seems to be overrated.

Put him on a 1v1 comparison with other villains such as Ouyang Ke or Cheng Kun, and he doesn't really look that bad.

To me YK is a character of pity than evil. LOCH had many other villians, OYF being the main one.

Not compelling one bit. Never impressed me even once and I found him boring.

A villain with a heart. He seemed to regret killing AuYeung Hak when he saw how much AuYeung Foong loved his nephew/son.

Actually, he was scared to death that Au Yeung Fung would find out the truth (which he did, of course).

What Ken said. This did not happen in the novel.

It didn't even happen in the series. The only thing Yeung Hong regretted about murdering Au Yeung Hak was getting caught.
