Cool fan-made website put up for HSDS 09/10!

Includes a collection of pictures with little cute tags (like the one with ZM-in-purple leaning on ZWJ is called "Yi Yi Bu She" or something like "can't bear to part"- sounds cheesier in English than it is! )

    http://et.21cn.com/tv/topic/yitian/index.shtml

Also has some character information for the ZWJ's four ladies, including this one for ZM
    http://et.21cn.com/tv/topic/yitian/2...587262_2.shtml
    ZZR

    XZ

    YL
    http://et.21cn.com/tv/topic/yitian/2...587262_8.shtml

Description also has pictures of various actresses who've portrayed the character.

And if you read mandarin s/he/they actually discuss at length their looks, personality, role in the plot, relationship to ZWJ and even opinions about
how the writer(s) feel(s) about the character... s/he/they is/are definitely ZM supporters, though are also sympathetic to the other characters.

Ady might get to sing one of the theme songs in HSDS with DC
    http://ent.people.com.cn/GB/42075/81374/8546843.html

ZJZ told reporters that he likes male-female duets and is thinking of having Ady and DC sing one of the songs in this version of HSDS.

In addition ZJZ talks about how, at first, he was worried that Ady An was going to be too dainty and be mincing-lady-like (its an awkward translation for "娇滴滴的大小姐") but found from working with her that she's tough, understanding and smart. Producer Yu Min also complimented her as one of the top actors of the younger set, and that her portrayal of ZM has gone from height to greater height as time went along.

    Thumbs up

Yay, thank you for all of the news and updates, yanfeng

I'm glad Ady's acting is being appreciate by the producer and director. I hope she will be a great ZM too. It would be cool if she get to sing the theme song too. I don't know Chinese, so when I listen to a singer, honesty, I can't tell if that singer sing good or bad

Let's hope thing will be good for Ady now

One post off-topic... I'll try to stay on after this!

An interesting aspect of the website I mentioned is that they have comparisons between the various versions of HSDS, e.g., written reviews of each ZM, a comparison review of the various ZZR's and the various productions overall (I noticed again the conspicuous absence of the 1994 version... sigh!)

Also votes for favorite portrayals so far:
In the vote for favorite ZM:
Overwelmingly Gigi Lai (69%) followed by Alyssa Chia (27%) - about 4500 votes
In the vote for favorite ZZR
Surprisingly Zhao Ya Zhi (34%) followed by Charmaine (31%) - about 2600 votes
In the vote for favorite ZWJ:
Again surprisingly its Lawrence Ng (47%) followed by Alec Su (36%) - about 2600 votes

I was surprised by all three results for various reasons:
    1) I didn't realize Gigi's portrayal was so much more popular than any of the others
    2) Also surprised that ZYZ has a following after all these years- perhaps proof of her enduring popularity?
    3) I agree Lawrence was probably the most subtle, well-acted ZWJ, but I'm surprised by his popularity even over teen idol Alec Su.

Alas, no one I voted for was the most popular... perhaps proof that I'm out of synch with popular opinion?

I'm fascinated by the articles comparing the various ZM's, the author(s) is/are clearly very big fan(s) of HSDS and discuss each version in great plot detail! If only my mandarin wasn't so lame, it wouldn't take me so long to get through the many articles!

I skipped the 1994 version as well, it just wasn't my taste surprisingly. But wow, it's great to see that my opinions aren't too far off from the popular votes. I would have voted for Gigi Lai followed by Kitty Lai and even though, Lawrence was a bit too old but his acting made up for it so my rank would go to Lawrence and then Tony as well.

ZZR and YRL fighting scene. Looks really cool; looking forward to this scene. The 2003 version screwed it up and the 2000 version's was too short!

Good to hear that ZJZ and Yu Min have finally approved of Ady as ZM. I remember ZJZ was quite reluctant to cast her as ZM in the beginning!

Actually the results imo are based more on the popularity of the actress rather than her portrayal. Gigi Lai and Angie Chiu are extremely popular in mainland China, even though the former has already retired.

ZWJ first met Zhu Jiuzhen when he was only 14 or 15 (after he left butterfly valley and brought Yang Buhui to search for her father). I'm glad this adaptation is attempting to portray the "Jie Di Lian" (older woman, younger man romance) btw ZWJ and ZJZ as the latter is supposed to be a few years older than ZWJ. However, the child actor looks too young and childish to play the teenage ZWJ. It's quite disappointing that they didn't get another actor to play ZWJ after the character enters adolescence.

So LSS played YG's mother (in the other LOCH) and now she's playing his descendant? How interesting.

And the article points out that she also played one of the daughter-in-laws of the famous Yang Family (in Shao Nian YJJ) who are supposedly ascendants of Yang Tiexin (Yang Guo's grandfather).

LSS's YRL really resembles LYF's XLN which is a good thing since the YRL is afterall, a descendant of XLN.

I didn't really like the YRL in the 2003 version. She came across as too preachy and overbearing. I remember the script made her say something like "you ought to have die today but i'll let you off due to the relation i have with heroine GX, founder of your sect.." to ZZR after defeating the latter. The actress is quite pretty but the blue contact lenses were very distracting and she speaks in a weird way, with the tip of her tongue sticking out of her teeth.

Here's some pics of her (first few posts): http://tieba.baidu.com/f?kz=266165640

June Chan played the YRL in the 2000 version and was pretty average imo.

I think the YRL in the 1986 version looks quite pretty as well (post #21 and 22)

I had a very deep impression of the YRL from 86- she was not just pretty, but also very strong, and had the right sharp, detached and arrogant look. (A mix of Yang Guo's cunning and XLN's arrogance and other-worldliness.)

I loved how she said "JYBGZ may not be the world's supreme martial arts." and she gave ZZR a disdainful but amused, arch smile!

The actress was a TVB lead actress in wuxia serials as well- great cameo for her, and another example of an excellent casting choice for '86!
