Default Deun Yu - extraordinary talent for learning martial arts

All of the Jin Yong protagonists proved to be extraordinary martial arts learners, but was Deun Yu the one learner who surpassed all others? Starting from a background of NO martial arts at the age of twenty, he was able to learn Bak Ming Sun Gung and Ling Bor Mei Bo very quickly and with no guidance. He also understood the concept of 6 Mak Divine Swords after a casual glance.

I don't think we see any other Jin Yong character pick up and grasp advanced new martial arts concepts (especially starting with no previous background) that quickly.

The reason he was able to learn LBWB was because it's changes and transformations were rooted in the I-Ching and in the Eight Triagrams, which he spent a lot of time studying. His mastery of BMSG however was extremely incomplete (he learned only one of the many ways which one could drain energy), and as for 6MSJ, the hardest part about it was the huge amount of internal energy that was needed, but which Duan Yu already had; he was unable to learn any of the complicated changes and techniques which the strokes possessed.

So for the first, it was primarily his religious/academic learning; the second, he learned imperfectly and it was an internal energy skill, and the third he ignored the actual martial arts concepts once again for an imperfect understanding of a heavily internal energy based skill.

Yeah, I'd say he was extremely talented. Along with BRAIN GOD Hu Fei and SURPRISING POSITION Linghu Chong.

In effect, then was Deun Yu's "6 Mak Divine Swords" not really 6 Mak Divine Swords at all, but just a very-amped up 1 Yeung Finger Technique?

After all, without the sword technique, isn't 6 Mak Divine Swords basically just 1 Yeung Finger Technique?

Though outthought, BRAIN GOD will always have a special place for being a trend-enabler.

I'd say Wang Yuyan was the best at "learning" martial arts.

Learning and applying, however, are completely different things.

i wouldn't say that she couldn't have applied it if she had wanted to. It's just that she never tried.

Wong Yu Yin didn't strike me as being much of a physical specimen, though. She gave me the impression of being too delicate to withstand the rigors of martial arts training.

duan yu was also quite the "pansy" boy

plus, being delicate could be a result of her "non-training". if she had practiced martial arts, perhaps she would no longer appear quite so "delicate"? I mean, neither XLN nor HR (or 99% of female leads) were ever described as appearing physically strong.

If only circumstances were otherwise, and DY really paid attention into learning his martial arts- i really think that he will be unsurpassed by others, and that is including sweeper monk.

I agree with Kenny. WYY appeared as a brainy but the homey and non-physical type.

DY.....be it a pansy, Mommy's boy, he can outwit his opponent and be cheeky as a monkey too.
What can I say? I'm still standing! No weapon against me shall prosper! I am more than a conqueror!!!

Yeah, don't think XLN or HR would have any muscular biceps or triceps.

And he has lots of good luck to spare too. In a way, luck plays such a big role in his progress, which is pretty shocking.

He had a lot of bad luck too.

The BMXG scroll was torn during his imprisonment by the 4 Evils - if not, he could potentially master this skill properly and then continuously use the skill to increase his internal energy.

6MSJ was learnt in haste without adequate understanding- thus causing his oft malfunctioned episodes.
