    Default Basketball Fouls

    Just some simple question.

    1) Is a foul to knock a ball out of someone's hand when they're shooting and they ball still hasn't left their hand?

    2) Is it okay to knock a ball out of someone's hand when they're just standing there?

To answer your question, the answer is no, it's not a foul to both questions. You can do both and they will not be a foul provided you only touch the ball. If you knock the ball out of someone's hand while shooting, it's technically a block.

If you knock the ball out of someone's hands while they're standing there it's a steal. You can always attempt to knock the ball out anytime you want. The difference btw a foul is when you actually touch the person (i.e. you slap their hand instead of the ball, you slap their wrist and the ball, your hands touch all ball but your body hits them and causes them to fall over, etc..)

if u make a play for the ball and only the ball (meaning u dont hit their hands/arms) then its never a foul in any situation

for #2, I heard from a friend that you can't knock it from the top because that's a reach-in foul but you can knock it from underneath, is that right?

As long as no contact is made its not a foul.

You can always touch the ball as a defender. As long as you don't hit the offensive player, if you touch all ball, it's clean.

all ball = no foul, u even see people reaching in with both hands to grab the ball and the result is a jumpball. so do w/e u have to do, just go for all ball.
