Question Do you tip for pick-up and take-out?

Do you tip when you pick up orders for take-out?

    1) Yes, always

    2) No, never

    3) It depends on...

    - the size of the order

    - the type of restaurant

    - the manner of the person from whom you're picking up the order

    - other or more than one of the above (please explain)

Normally I like to dine in, and when I do I tip. But if I don't have money to tip, I take out so that I don't feel bad about not tipping.

Not many people here do take-out, eh? I didn't think a tip was necessary, but the person gave me a look like I owed her something more. But maybe she was just having a bad day and I was oversensitive and read too much into it.

If I call ahead and then pick-up, I never tip.

If I dine-in and have some leftover for to-go, then I'd leave a normal tip.

For buffet style restaurant, it depends. Sometimes I leave a bit for the cleaning lady/guy or if they do beverage refills. But sometimes I don't leave tip at all (well, at least at 1 chinese restaurant near my work, I never saw anybody give tip).

And I hate it when a lousy waitress expects a big tip for a bad service and when they didn't get any at all, they still have the guts to run after the customer and ask point blank "You forgot to leave tip". This actually happened to my best friend and he pretty much exploded after that.
