I used to but I don't anymore since I am too old now. I got it until I was 22 I think, but I am now 30. My mom gets it since she is over 60 and even gets her medication covered(medication is expensive too). IN the US, you need to either buy medical insurance or get it from your work. THat is how my brothers that work have it. However, it depends on the job since some jobs don't give it to you so you need to buy it yourself.

I have not seen the video, but poor girl!! Luckily, this does not happen often... Will she ever recover from it??? I guess it is not really a good idea to get this vaccine because in some cases it is not even necessary.

except in massachusetts. we have mandatory health coverage, so if you don't have insurance from work or medicare, there are low cost insurance plans available subsidized by the government.

how many ppl get regular flu shots? i don't see swine flu as more dangerous than regular flu, so if you don't usually get flu vaccines, then i don't see it as necessary to get this one.

Really?? I didn't know that you had to have mandatory health coverage in Massachusetts. I wonder why?? One of my cousins owns her own hair salon and has to buy her own medical insurance.

Sadly, a lot of people are scared by the deaths caused by the swine flu so they don't look at it in the same way as the regular flu. I think my brother just looks down on me and my other brother since we currently don't have a job. It's not like every job provides medical insurance.

it's so everyone will get healthcare. like now, parents will have no excuse not to bring their kids to the doctors.

i think most ppl in urban areas have health insurance anyways. it's just rural areas with a lot of ppl who are self employed that need coverage.

I developed a sorely sore throat + mild coughing + more sneezing/running nose. I didn't get any sleep last night, and I feel a bit queazy. I had suspected it may be H1N1, but so far the doctors, upon hearing that I don't have a fever, immediately dismiss my case

It may or may not be H1N1, I just wish we could know so 1) we can go after the right treatment and 2) I can take correct measures as to not infect more ppl.

When I had H1N1 (closer the beginning), doctors took me straight from the airport and tested me three times (once at start, once at quarantine and another as I was out of quarantine). Even during my quarantine, I heard that the situation got out of hand and the government is not taking people to hospitals and quarantining them anymore. They are much more lax since so many people's got it. People will not get tested unless clear evidence warrants for it. Even my friends back in Australia were told there is no need to be tested by doctors even when they said they were feeling unwell and their friend was confirmed for H1N1.

The medication Tamiflu can be prescribed to potential sufferers (my parents and sister had it even they may or may not have H1N1). I suggest you speak to your doctor to see if you can get some Tamiflu, which helps against swine flu or the prevention of it.

Frankly, the test itself is not a very pleasant experience.

i had the h1n1, and yes it kicked my ***.

    symptoms:
    dry cough - first sign.
aches and pain all over my body
    diarrhea
    headache and dizziness
    chills
    fever of 103
no appetite - not even for my favorite pho dish!
nausea and VOMITTING! - i vomitted 3 times in just one hour! - that was when i went into the ER
and after all of this hits, the worse feeling you could ever have comes over your body and you really can't sit up. all you want to do is lay down and shut your eyes. i was sensitive to light and sound. i couldn't play with my laptop! i couldn't watch tv!

i was on vacation when my department got the h1n1 vaccine, so i didn't get it. and now i don't need it cause i had it already.

and i was surprised that they let me out after 23hrs of obsv! well, they made me promise that i wouldn't go anywhere, yeah like i felt like going anywhere to begin with. all i wanted was my bed. i missed a week of work and my supervisor said that even though i was feeling better i still had to wait at least 24 hours after all my symptoms were gone before i could go back to work. damn my paycheck is gonna be bad!

Whao you had a serious case GuGu. I had runny nose and fever 38 celcius. No coughing, chills, nausea etc. I didn't feel much until customs officers stopped me saying they detected a fever from their thermo-scan machine.

But it's unfair, the people kept me for 6 days .

Woah, you had a bad case of H1N1..I am glad that you and flamer are feeling better now. Do you know how you got it? Those symptoms sound like a typical flu...I wonder what is the difference between H1N1 and the flu?

I almost definitely got it from a friend whom I watched a movie with the day before I got on my flight. We shared the same packet of snacks.

Where did you fly to? Did they keep you at the airport?? Did you have to go through tests and stuff before they let you enter the country that you flew to??How long did it take you to recover?? Was your friend sick?? Is he/she ok now??

The above in bold plus sorethroat..... my doctor told me I have 60% of H1N1, and he quickly sent me out of the office after telling me (wearing this power facemask) "Don't worry, I think you're fine. How many days of MC do you need?"

Let me answer that 1 by 1 haha...

    1) My travel plan was to go from Sydney to Beijing, stopping in Singapore for a few days. I got stopped at Singapore Airport.

    2) Quarantine officers at the airport stopped me and took my temperature, which showed 38 something celcius. They almost fainted when I told them I came from Australia (notorious swine flu capital then). They said they have to send me to hospital and take the H1N1 test and quarantine me if need be. Ambulance took me with police clearing the road in front (LOL).

    3) The H1N1 test I took showed positive the next morning. So I got transferred to an isolation ward. Once I got there, they did more tests, x rays at the chest, tubes of blood, blood pressure/ temperature every 4 hours (yes they wake me up at 2 or 4am everyday). On the fifth day I took the H1N1 test again which showed negative and they let me go the next day.

4)I was pretty much fine on day 2. I had a fever and runny nose upon arrival and the next morning at the quarantine camp I was feeling alright.

    5) My friend is fine, didn't notice anyway when we saw the movie. Never got checked, never got medication.

I think I was case 90 something when I entered Singapore. By the time I left, there were like 500 cases.

I was lucky I didn't get stopped in Beijing. I heard the quarantine conditions and overall medical quality is quite abysmal there compared to Singapore.

The doctors seem to have taken your case too lightly. A case reported in local news did mentioned that a H1N1 infected did not have fever among his/her other symptoms. Fever may come later or not, but dry cough and throat infection (sore throat similar?) definitely were among the symptoms. A friend of mine had H1N1 and she started off with dry coughs. My 60% H1N1 case also started off with dry coughs, which is after meeting up with the same friend who is going to recovery after 1 week of quarantine.

Thanks for letting me know Flamer! WOW, you went through a lot... They did not just randomly stop people right? Did you appear sick? Did you go to Beijing/Singapore for work or just for vacation?? Glad that you are ok now.
