The martial arts star has called for wushu, better known outside China as kung fu, to be recognised as an official Olympic sport, Chinese state media reported.

AFP - Hollywood martial arts star Jackie Chan has called for wushu, better known outside China as kung fu, to be recognised as an official Olympic sport, state media reported Sunday.
"I love wushu a lot and I would love to see it included in future Olympic Games," Chan, who was in Beijing to record a theme song for an upcoming combat event, was quoted as saying by the official China Daily newspaper.
The International Olympic Committee recognises wushu as a sport but has not included it as an official event in the Games, unlike other Asian martial arts such as taekwondo and judo that are now part of the global sports gathering.
However, the IOC allowed China to organise an international wushu tournament at the same time as the 2008 Beijing Games to showcase the sport -- an event that was attended by Jet Li, another Hollywood actor and kung fu star.
Chan explained that wushu's many styles of fighting and different schools could have hindered its inclusion as an official Olympic sport, the report said.
"This makes it difficult for wushu to make a unified impression to international audiences," he said.
Chan, who has put his martial arts skills to use in several blockbuster films, began practising wushu as a child and says he still works on his moves daily, the report said.

Does he mean San Shou? Or does he mean wushu wushu, in which case, dancing doesn't count as a sport.

Concerns of if it becomes an Olympic sport would be, what are the rules? It has to be different enough to both judo, boxing and Tae Kwon Do as to not be interchangable. In which case, why not just implement MMA into the Olympics and let the Wu Shu guys duke it out there.
After all, Pancration is one of the original Olympic sports in ancient Greece.

It could be a sport in the Olympics in the same way that it is conducted in other sporting events like Asian games etc. Similar to gymnastics etc.

Martial Arts isn't just about fighting or dueling.
    The Truth is out there
I say we leave it there...

That ship has sailed along time ago wrt Olympic sports. Do you want me to list all the so-called sports that are current included in the Olympics?

Oh but it is. Martial arts by its very nature eliminates all that does not contribute to the end goal of combat. Countless martial arts don't exist anymore because they don't work. If it doesn't help you bring the other guy low, it is not martial.

I don't care so long as they don't call it a martial art. Olympic WTF TKD is a joke. Pointedly illustrated by that guy that kicked the ref in the head and couldn't hurt him.
Waiting for the day they somehow incorporate coitus into the Olympics.

I'm not surprised as it ever happened to me during one of our not-so-formal performances back then. My instructor forgot to bring the CD with the music to our performance so he had to improvise. He then borrowed one of the guys' techno music, and the overall effect was not bad. I think it kinda run along well with our moves despite we weren't dancing.
What can I say? I'm still standing! No weapon against me shall prosper! I am more than a conqueror!!!

I don't care to sit by the window on an airplane. If I can't control it, why look?
