Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!
Well TVB back then was in trouble. The old lot like the Five Tigers, Roger Kwok, Hugo Ng had all left TVB with most of the main female leads like Idy, Margie, Jamie, Sheren, Amys, etc. And it was before the time of the newer lot like Ekin, Leon, Aaron, Ada, Noel, Vivian, etc...
In 1991, Eddie and Kathy were probably the best leads you could have. At least they got Liza Wang (which was an extreme rare appearance) and Law Kar Ying to guest star and after which they apparently got together for real. Don't forget Jimmy and Derek was also there but in small roles. The supporting stars were the best that TVB could offer at the time.
TVB actually spent months researching the costumes and customs of the Tibetans and incorporating them into the plot. They also had to fly the whole cast over to Dun Huang (??) to film. And in terms of the plot, it was a once in a blue moon when TVB actually wrote a story where the Han Chinese were the cruel tradition-crushing invaders who oppressed the peace-loving Tibetans. When are we ever going to China as the bad guy in any series nowadays?
don't know what to say
Maybe just lucky I didn't write a porn story or else you would be tooo...
On a serious note, thank you for your support and appreciation for GSS. I wrote it in the spur of the moment as a short story (during Yr 10 SWOT-Vac) and it seemed to work out great. But when it came to GSS 2 and GSS 3, I think I didn't think and plan enough ahead to have enough material and twists for a triology so even though it didn't turn out that bad (I hope), I know it could have been way better.
I have to admit, I never planned for the child to live in GSS1 so the link in GSS 2 is a bit too forced and long-winding. GSS 3 was written as a link to GSS 4 which is still in my External HDD, but without out GSS 4 out to the public, GSS 3 seems uneccessary (I still can't believe I experimented on writing on subtle homosexuality ). I just got so bored writing GSS 4 which gave a final ending for the two swords that I stopped one third of the way through. I am not going to rewrite the whole thing cos I don't have time and I just focus on different themes now.
I think that through the whole 5 years of the GSS saga, I have learnt that I produce a better result by planning ahead. That way, I know that I will have closed up plot holes and tied up loose ends to give a proper conclusion to the story. GGS was eaily influenced by stuff I was watching at the time, but because of brainstorming and a strong structure, "The Forbidden City - City of Disillusionment" is more original and expresses what I feel about certain issues (e.g. patriotism vs safety of loved ones) rather than what I felt after watched so and so.
As I read along your "Legendary Book of Sun & Moon Swordplay", I can actually see you maturing in your writing and view of the world during these 8 (?? or 9) years. Your originality comes out as you move further along in the story and the characters and events show us the readers what your mind is thinking (esp in the last few chaps). It is comfortable and natural to read (and enjoy) rather than forced chain of events that are strung together but don't connect properly.
That is what makes "Legendary Book of Sun & Moon Swordplay" different and stand out from other fan-fics I have read from a similar genre.
