There is no doubt about West Poison Au Yeung Fung's martial arts talent. Even among his fellow Greats, he stood out for being a very clever and innovative master of martial arts. Being a Great, however, entails more than just martial arts mastery; also important are uncanny instincts for recognizing and avoiding the numerous traps and dangers in wulin that do not directly involve martial arts, and from which even superior martial arts might not save a person if he succumbs to the trap.

Au Yeung Fung, however, for all his martial arts greatness, was *horrible* at avoiding traps. Central Divinity Wong Chung Yeung suckered him into trying to steal the 9 Yum Jen Ging from Chung Yeung Temple, which resulted in Au Yeung Fung's losing his martial arts for year (and frankly, he was lucky that that was *all* he lost). In LOCH, Wong Yung suckered him a half dozen or more times. During the period between LOCH/ROCH, the second generation Ancient Tomb Sect Leader, who was unable to defeat him in a straight-up fight, also suckered him into a trap.

Au Yeung Fung was powerful, but wily he wasn't.
