Default Why did the Golden Blade family not avenge the Lin family?

The Golden Blade family with their wealth and martial arts reputation should have attempted to avenge the Lin family. Wang Yuanba's own daughter died as a result of Yu Canghai and the Qingcheng sect. Why was there no attempt that we know of for them to avenge the Lin family ? It was no secret that Yu was behind the massacre.

Logically, they should have at least make an attempt to avenge the Lin family. Also, once Lin Pingzi found out about Yue Buqun's plot to steal his family's swords art manual, why didn't he go to his grandfather's for protection? Or maybe, the Golden Blade family is just interested in the manual, and didn't care at all to avenge their daughter/sister.

The Golden Blade family showed a lot of face to Yue Buqun, and in any case were small fry as far as martial arts went. They wouldn't stand a chance against Yue Buqun, let alone the rest of Huashan as well.

When they hosted Yue Buqun and the Huashan party they didn't know that he had designs on the manual. But at that time, they are surely aware that Yu Canghai was behind their daughter's death. Why didn't they try to avenge her? Even if they're small fry compared to Qingcheng school, shouldn't they at least try?

I didn't get the impression that the Golden Blade family was that much weaker than a second/third rate sect like Qingcheng. He was the best martial artist in Luoyang for decades, and wasn't Luoyang still quite important at the time?

Perhaps Yu was much better than the rest of them, but I think the elder Wang members seemed better than any other fighters in Qingcheng. I think a family with a big reputation like them would logically seek revenge or help to get it.

I think it might have been an oversight on JY's part. For Lin Pingzhi's story to work, he needs to be alone and vulnerable. Otherwise, why should he be so desperate to learn Bixie Jianfa, accept YBQ's protection by being a Huashan pupil, etc. If he has this powerful Golden Blade family behind him, why should he do all of those things? He could have asked for help from them, and according to wulin custom, they would have to help him avenge his parents. Perhaps JY intended to use the family in the latter part of the novel, but never got to it. Sort of like what he planned to do with Qu Yang's grandaughter (who was killed in the third edition).

I just got the impression they weren't that powerful. Yu Canghai was slightly inferior to Yue Buqun who is among the top of the echelon. These guys would most likely be made up of mid tier material. LPZ would have much more to learn from YBQ than from his mother's family.

Yue Buqun suggested that if Lin Zhennan knew what was coming and had managed to link up with the Golden Blade Wang Yuanba, they might have put up a decent fight vs Qingcheng, suggesting the Wang clan wasn't totally sucky:

Master smiled and said, ‘Yu Canghai’s Kung Fu skills have surpassed his master, Evergreen’s. Lin Zhennan’s Kung Fu skills, although outsiders have no idea, are probably inferior to his grandfather’s. One had advanced and one had slipped back. In addition, the Qingcheng Sword School hides in the dark while the Fortune Prestige Escort House is exposed in the light; before the real fight even begins, the Fortune Prestige Escort House already has a seventy percent chance of losing. If Lin Zhennan were to get the information early and invite the Golden Blade Wang Yuanba in Luoyang to help out, then they might be able to put on a decent fight. Denuo, do you want to go watch the fun?’
Then again, he also assumed Lin Zhennan wasn't totally incompetent (which was pretty much shown as false). So, who knows?

Yue Buqun asking Lao Denuo if he "wanted to go watch the fun" doesn't seem very Gentleman-ly or noble. Shouldn't he have been faking worry or distress at least at the massacre of a prominent (and from what it seemed, nice) wulin family ? A bit sloppy by either Yue or Jin Yong there.

Agree. Quick check, YBQ knew from the start that Denuo was a spy right? If so, perhaps, he was trying to bait Denuo into alerting ZLC, though I can't quite phantom why.

On-topic, I feel that perhaps the Wang family married off their daughter in exchange for protection and fame. The Wang family probably isn't that strong themselves. They probably had a strong reputation in Luoyang due to their wealth and affiliation with Fu Wei Escort.

This would tie in with my earlier conjecture. What if YBQ all along knew the Wang family was weak and had no mean to help? By bringing the Wang family into the picture, he might trigger ZLC (via Denuo) into thinking that another person is after the Bi Xie Jian Fa, thereby making ZLC even more anxious. Perhaps YBQ wanted to force ZLC into revealing himself. This might allow him to usurp ZLC's leadership position in the 5 Mountains Sect alliance.

    Just a thought.

If Yu Canghai got the real Bixie Manuel, would be willing to castrate himself to learn the martial art? Yu Canghai has wife doesn't he? How about Yu Canghai's sons and students? How about ZLC? How about Lao Denuo?
