If that island is belong to China, then China should exercise its might to take it back, by force if that is the last resource. At the moment, Japan is no match for China. Hopefully no fellow Teochew people including my relatives from Chaoshan get hurt as a result of protest. Wish them the best.

This is interesting. Damn manipulative commies.
I didn't read because it's an extended issue and it's a fight between the same pair of children, and I'm jaded of China's fights (they are fighting with some country every now and then). One side may or may not get the island, but no matter what happens they are all going to kiss and patch up some fine day. They will be okay at the end of the day.

Hopefully, no death or injury.
My dream of a united Asian Union ala EU has just been dashed to crumbs in the past couple of weeks.
I like me.
The Communist Party of China is lapping this $hit up. A citizenry mad at Japan is a citizenry that isn't paying attention to the new leadership change and the rampant corruption and disatisfaction of the Party.
As for this query in general, I think *all* sides in this dispute (Chinese, Japanese, and Korean) are being extremely STUPID...risking another Pacific war for a measly little island.
The little island might have vast natural resources that can enrich the country. Natural resources are finite so it's worth fighting for. China should not back down. If China gives an inch, Japan will take a mile. Japan needs to know that the glory of the old days are long gone.

First, there will be no war. Whole thing is overblown, the risk vs reward is not worth it. Both government just want to return to the status quo, but must make big fanfare to appease the domestic audience.
Second, I find it quite funny the spin of things the Western media is having. Haven't west always demanded for China to be more democratic and be represented by the people?
Well, this is the will of the (Chinese) people. There is Chinese media who plaster this all over the front page, but the fact remains most Chinese people do have great deal of resentment toward Japan and are nationalistic when it comes to Sovereignty.
CCP is pragmatic, Chinese people, like all people, is emotional.
And China will never allow Japan to develop those islands. The status quo will remain either until China becomes strong enough that Japan has no choice but to hand them over or develop it mutually, or China economy crashes, at which point there will be more pressing problems for China to handle.
All Japan/USA have to do to win a war with the PRC over those islands is to wait for the Commies to run out of gasoline. The Commies won't go to war because it knows it can't win.
Yeah, this is crazy. Did they ever find out if those bunch of Chinese fishing boats that headed to Japan was real or not?

Taiwan has joined the fray. Dirt, if there's going to be a war like you said, it looks like it's going to be China-Taiwan vs Japan-US.
Thing is, randomly pick two countries in Asia, and chances are good they will have some sort of border dispute with each other.
Of course, Tawian and South Korea, being Allies of US, their anti-Japanese sentiment and protest against Japan is often downplayed. How else can one paint a convincing "Aggressive China Bulling peaceful Japan" if Japan has issues with all its neighbors, including US allies and democracies.
