Default “Beauty at the Crossfires” ft. Shu Chang & Sammul Chan

The gorgeous costumes, sets, faces not to mention camera has been inherited by “Beauty at the Crossfires 烽火佳人” , the second in the “Beauty” trilogy following Tang Yan/Luo Jin/Sammul Chan’s “Gone with the Wind 乱世佳人.” It’ll be worth watching just for the visuals with a cast of Shu Chang, Sammul Chan, Qiao Zhenyu, Li Zhinan, and Shi Xiaoqun.

Is anyone watching this? 2-3 episodes are coming out every day on youtube.

It's melodramatic like most period dramas, but the acting and storyline are pretty good. I'm not a big fan of Sammul Chan's character, but the assassin that Qiao Zhen Yu plays is very likable.

I am! Even though some sections 'spurt dog blood everywhere' (as C-netizens like to call it) and there are some illogical happenings, it's still very watchable, and all 3 leads are portraying their characters wonderfully. I am biased to QZY's assassin...a lot, so much that I sometimes skip all the cat fights that happen in the Du Family.

I was pleasantly surprised to see Shi Xiao Qun (BBJX's Eighth Madam)here, and her character setup as Min Ru is great. All the fans on tieba are discussing the two possible endings:
    click to show/hide spoilers
die after sending Yuwan to Yuntang, or die of old age in sadness and regret. Of course, there's always the happier ending of him ending up with Min Ru, but all signs seem to point to her dying as well.

Yeah, the backstabbing gets tiring very quickly. Sammul's character got on my nerves in the beginning because how he dealt with Tong Yu Wan so underhandedly. But now, I'm starting to the good side of him. The only person I think is out of place in this drama is Li Zhi Nan's Li Shao Feng. His face and hairstyle are too modern and pretty-boyish. His acting is definitely most unimpressive of the main characters.

I like how spunky Min Ru is but sometimes I just want to shake some sense into her. Zhou Ting Chen doesn't like her in that way. He sees her as a friend and comrade, and sometimes as an enemy, but not as a potential love interest because he loves Yu Wan.

From the spoilers in the trailer, I think ending number 1 is more likely. Zhou Ting Chen values loyalty above all, so I just can't see him falling for another girl.

Indeed. I find that all the villains in 瞬间倾城's (scriptwriter and original author) novels are similar. I find the fact that he started enacting revenge on Tong Yuwan due to her handkerchief being found in Qing Ping's room falling short of common sense, even if he was "blinded by love".

I can't see Zhou Tingchen falling for someone else, and I wouldn't be fond of her actions (死缠烂打) either if not for the fact that I softened considerably after her explanation (not verbatim): "I grew up playing with knives and guns. I don't know when I will die, so before I leave, I want to have a heart stirring romance."

Although Yuwan wouldn't be able to forget Zhou Tingchen, her feelings will have changed (her heart is with Du Yuntang). Because I'm suffering from second lead syndrome (in two of the three dramas I'm currently watching), I'd be happy if Min Ru could be the one to remain by his side forever just as his comrade and confidante (even though it would be unfair for her).

I thought the set up was really interesting. A girl who loves an assassin and is forced to marry a man who hates her after she indirectly caused the death of the girl he likes. But after the nth time Hong Yu backstabbed Tong Yu Wan and used Du Yun Tang for the sake of love…. After a while, the screenwriters seemed to lose all logic and want to write nonsense for the sake of conflict alone. For example, why would Mr. Tong adopt Hong Yu and kick his blood daughter and grandson out on the streets?! I also wonder what happened to Li Shao Feng. After Zhou Ting Chen and Tong Yu Wan chose not to kill him, he just disappeared from the story.

Also maybe it was the version I watched, but I felt like the editing was really bad and abrupt. They would refer to some scenes that didn't even happen and sometimes jumped from one scene to the next, without a transition. For example, Li Shao Feng referenced Li Xue Mei's death, but I only saw her being walked away by guards. In the trailer, there was a scene where Li Shao Feng held a gun to the kneeling Li Xue Mei's head, but it wasn't in the version i watched. Also they referenced to Jin Wang Zhi and Mrs. Jin's deaths, but I never saw them on screen.

The acting and chemistry of the actors were very good though (except for Li Zhi Nan, I really didn't like how fake his acting seemed). If the storyline was written better and the production better quality, it would have been a great drama.

I stopped trying to watch this after Yun Tang raped Yu Wan in one of his jealousy fits. That was disgusting since she clearly didn't want it, and I stopped caring if he really loved her.

This series has something really addicting to it. Even though some things are just totally unlogical or cliched.
I especially love Tong Yu Wan and Du Yun Tang's scenes. Sammul and Shu Qang did a great job together.
I liked them so much i skipped some of the other story, so I could get faster bach to the couple :P
Only around 10 episodes more to go before I reach the end.

I couldn't watch it 1 second after that. I hate dramas where rape is justified as an act of love out of anger... I'm angry at myself for beginning to watch it.
I'm looking forward for a drama where the actor who played Zhou Ting Chen gets a good role
