This is the first in a series of speculative discussion threads in a format that I borrowed from my friends at Comicbook Resources.Com (and perhaps they learned the format somewhere else).
Here's the set up: we take two random characters from wuxia fiction (any author, any timeline), and have them meet in a casual situation (dining at a restaurant, etc.). This is their first face-to-face encounter with each other, though they will have heard of each other and know at least some things (e.g. what the wulin public generally knows) about the other. At the beginning of the encounter, they are not inclined to fight or otherwise compete in martial arts (although that could change depending on how the conversation goes); instead, they strike up a conversation and try to get acquainted. Depending on their respective personalities, points of view, etc., they could end up becoming friends and enjoying great conversation, leave feeling indifferent about the other person, or engage in conflict.
We'll try to pick characters who might have certain areas of similarity or contrast that would make a discussion between them interesting.
Our first two characters for the Sit and Talk are Gu Long's Lee Chum Foon and Jin Yong's Yeung Gor.
Yeung Gor walks into a tavern somewhere in the Central Plains. Yeung Gor is in the tenth year of his sixteen-year wait for Little Dragon Girl. He spots a charismatic, middle-aged man seated at one of the tables, coughing his way through a vessel of fine wine. Yeung Gor notes the dagger on the table near the man's hand and realizes that this must be the famous Lee Chum Foon of Little Lee's Flying Dagger.
Yeung Gor seats himself at the same table opposite to Lee Chum Foon and, wearing a friendly smile, says, "Brother. Can I buy you a drink?"
How does the discussion go from there? YOU write the dialogue!
