Default Tsui Hark (film director) characterized Wong Yung as a "feminist": do you agree?

In the MAKING OF LOCH documentary video that preceded TVB's LOCH 1982 adaptation, Hong Kong film director Tsui Hark characterized Wong Yung as a wuxia "feminist," a character who embodied the strength and independence of women. Do you agree with Tsui Hark's characterization of Wong Yung?

Never thought of her that way. She always seemed to have "settled down" once she met Guo Jing which seems pretty contrary to what a feminist would do.

Maybe during ROCH, but how about during LOCH?

Even in LOCH her initial actions made her seem more mischievous, a bit more heretical (coming from her father), and generally a bit more spoiled in the beginning. After she meets Guo Jing, her actions become much more responsible. It could be her just growing up, but it certainly seemed like Guo Jing had a bigger influence on her than she had on him personality wise.

Her accomplishments could probably place her in the feminist category in being the Beggar's Sect leader, helping to defend the Sung government, and in general protecting some of the weak and fighting evildoers, but the way it happened did not give a particular feminist view. She was forcibly passed on the leadership by her dying (male) master and generally just supporting Guo Jing in his quest and adventures. She was even powerless to stop her father from marrying her off to Ouyang Ke without some serious luck and circumstance, so I never got the feminist vibe.

Not a chance. She's just another girl who can't resist a Real Man in Jin Yong universe.

I thought Meijue was the stereotypical "angry feminist". Ren Ying Ying was like warrior princess who acted like embarrassed 16 yr old girl. Blue Phoenix was more the free spirited feminist.

Felt Chiu Man embodied Feminist the best - strong, independent, planned ahead, ambitious, leadership - she only got really muddleheaded around ZWJ

Contrasting to HR - I always felt she would drop all her responsibilities at the first chance she could and she only took up the responsibilities in the first place for her Jing Ge Ge.
