Sorry, no. Japan is only good for lifting outer appearance (ex. Vader suit). Japan never good at story element. That is why they continually borrow from China like Journey to the West. Basis of Star Wars is, "Father turns to evil side. Son redeems father". There, sorry pal. That is LOCH/ROCH right there. The only Kurosawa influence on SW are the lightsabers and samurai-like swordfights and samurai culture (Luke wears something like a Japanese kimono in the OT). Lucas wanted something really sharp as a weapon like a Japanese katana that can cut thru anything. There is no Chinese sword (except the HS/DS) with such ability, but a Japanese katana. So, you can say kimono, katana, and Shogun armor are the only influences Kurosawa and Japan had on Lucas's Star Wars. The rest (the underlying story structure) was China's Jin Yong.

Read that again, Japan sucks at storytelling but is master of physical appearances. No sane Illuminati set on mega bucks borrows story from Japan if they can. Why borrow story from a culture that even borrows story from another culture? Why not go straight to the source country (China)?

StarWars =/= blowing up Deathstar 2x or sword fight, or whatever else. No it would have failed. Shakespeare still famous today b/c of timeless themes. I can write story about blowing up entire galaxy, two guys duking it out with laser axes dressed in Samurai costumes for 30 minutes and it would fade into oblivion shortly. Lucas himself said SW is about family drama. That iswhere Jin Yong comes in... Once again, Japan is the last place Lucas would have looked to for timeless family drama themes.

btw, just to show you how bad Japan is at storytelling, most of their live action TV shows are only 11-12 one hour episodes long. As an Asian race, they can craft superior technology and cute outer appearance culture like no other Asian race. But they can't craft a 56 episodes of COHERENT one hour long TV show with a great timeless theme, like Jin Yong, not even if their life depended on it. It was never in their genetic makeup to best China at long stretched out EPIC TIMELESS storytelling...

Notice shows like One Piece that go like 300+ episodes long w/o a central unifying story thread. Again, Japanese don't have storytelling genes like Chinese, so no Lucas et al would rather gravitate towards China for literature inspiration instead...

Aanyways we shouldn't even be debating this. 1984 was when the best RoCH came out on TV. It was inevitable that that and HSDS would make it to Western media in some form and here we are an HSDS clone set in the SW universe with gender switching...

Also, if u look hard enough, u might find a Japanese work where Goku/Sun Wukong is a woman...

WASHINGTON, Dec. 8 (UPI) — George Lucas has seen Star Wars: The Force Awakens and has given this thoughts on the latest entry in the series.

Lucas who was being honored for his lifetime achievements in arts and culture at the Kennedy Center Honors Sunday, shared on the red carpet his opinion on the first Star Wars film made without his involvement.

“I think the fans are going to love it,” he told Vulture. “It’s very much the kind of movie they’ve been looking for.”

The comments fall in line with what Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy recently said of Lucas’s thoughts on Force Awakens mentioning to The Hollywood Reporter that “he really liked it.”

Lucas sold Lucasfilm and the rights to Star Wars to Disney in 2012 for $4 billion and did not play a role in the new film’s development which has been taken over by new helmer J.J. Abrams. In an interview with CBS in November, the filmmaker said he submitted ideas for new films but that “ultimately, they looked at the stories and they said, ‘We want to make something for the fans.’”

“People don’t actually realize it’s actually a soap opera and it’s all about family problems — it’s not about spaceships. So they decided they didn’t want to use those stories, they decided they were going to do their own thing so I decided, ‘fine. … I’ll go my way and I let them go their way,’” Lucas continued.
    Hmmm, let's see... Star Wars is about F A M I L Y P R O B L E M S...

Btw, cannot a DRAGON SABER breathe out FIRE to the sides/crossguard (like a Western dragon breathing fire/flares out of its nostrils)?:

^ ok. This is definitely, The DRAGON SABER:

(If you imagine a blade that stretches across the dragon fires/flares lines, then it would seem the sword has a really large imaginary blade, just like the Dragon Saber in HSDS!)

Lucas did credit one piece of work that's wuxia which influenced him. A Hong Kong film by the name of Moon Warriors (1992). The fight sequences in the prequels were definitely inspired by that film. Jedi master, Qui-Gon Jinn, took its name from the Chinese words "Qigong" according to a book titled "Star Wars Heresies".
