    Default Jin Yong Miscalculated?

Yellow Dress Maiden was said to be YG and XLN's great grand children, which could be wrong. ZSF was only 13 when he first met YG who was 30. If you work out the math, the Yellow Dress Maiden is probably YG & XLN's grand daughter?

I always thought the Yellow Dress Maiden if it is so is YG's grand-daughter.

Maybe can check with the time-line expert. Ken, your opinion/input please.

I read the translation of the 2nd edition of the Condor Trilogy recently, and I don't recall that the Yellow Dress Maiden's exact relationship to YG and XLN was ever explicitly mentioned. It's implied that she has some relation to them because Shi Huolong's daughter calls her "Sister Yang", and she recites a poem relating to the Ancient Tomb and "Shen Diao Xia Lv" (i.e., YG & XLN) retreating from the world, but the nature of the relationship (granddaughter or great-granddaughter) was not actually stated.. unless of course it was included in the 3rd edition changes

It's strongly implied that Lady Yeung is the descendant of Yeung Gor and Little Dragon Girl, though her exact relationship to them is never specified. Also bear in mind that generally, a generation might have been shorter in pre-modern times because people often bore children at a younger age than people do today.

    GREAT grandchild is more likely.

100 (well, 97 to be exact, but close enough) years ago, YG was 36. Say he produced offspring at 40. His child produced offspring at 30. His grandchild produced offspring at 30. We have (40-36) + 30 + 30 + 30 [Yellow-dressed Lady's age] = 94 years. That still leaves a few years of buffer. Unless YG, or child, or grandchild waited super long to have baby, YDL has to be Great Grandchild.

Note, I believe YDL is ~30 yo, but not 100% sure.

Could also be Great GREAT Grandchild

YG was 36 and may have had a child +/- a few years
But accounting for China norms and practices of the time, people were popping kids out around age 16-20 on average!!

    40-36+ 20 +20 +20+20.......

Although realistically, most likely Great Grandchild =P

WYS had HR at a much later age, possibly in his 40's? Doubt he was some teenage kid when he took part in the first mount hua sword duel.

Let's do some calculation by the reign of mongol empire. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mongol_Empire
    1. Assume that the death of Genghis Khan is the birth of YG. That's 1227.
    2. Assume that the appearance of Yellow Dressed Lady is towards the end of Mongol Empire. Let's use 1367 for simplicity.
    So, 1367-1227 = 140 years.
    3. Assume that YG's descadent was born 37 years apart.
    So
    (a) YG's child = born in 1227+37 = 1264
    (b) YG's grand-child = 1264+37 = 1291
    (c) YG's great grand-child = 1291+37 = 1328
1367-1328 = 39 years old = too old for Yellow Dressed Lady
    (d) YG great great grand-child = 1328+37 = 1365
1367-1365 = 2 years old = too baby for Yellow Dressed Lady.
    Is my rough calculation correct?

Hmm, definitely not grandchild for sure. Tends towards great great grand-child if YG's descendants marry earlier than YG. YG is an odd one as he was "waiting" for XLN.

37 years apart is old even by modern standards. 27 would probably be closer.

Ok. Let's re-calculate as I also feel that there should be at least 5 years before the Mongol Empire ends.

    1. Assume that the death of Genghis Khan is the birth of YG. That's 1227.
    2. Assume that the appearance of Yellow Dressed Lady is towards the end of Mongol Empire. Let's use 1363 for simplicity.
    So, 1363-1227 = 136 years.
    3. Assume that YG's descendant was born 37 years apart and grand descendant/thereafter was born 27 years apart.
    So
    (a) YG's child = born in 1227+37 = 1264
    (b) YG's grand-child = 1264+27 = 1291
    (c) YG's great grand-child = 1291+27 = 1318
    (d) YG great great grand-child = 1318+27 = 1345
1363-1345 = 18 years old = too young for Yellow Dressed Lady?
If we deduct another 2 years from 27, that makes Yellow Dressed Lady = 24 years old.

So it seems great great grand-child is more accurate. Sounds logical?
