Default Did the HS/DS negatively impact Guo Jing & Huang Rong's legacy?

In The Heavenly Sword and the Dragon Saber, the Mongols already had China under its rule for more than half a century. As a result, there was always strong tension between the Han Chinese and the Mongolians. In addition to this, there was also plenty of internal strife within Chinese Wulin and its several sects. What was the source of this conflict? The Heavenly Sword and the Dragon Saber, forged by Guo Jing and Huang Rong. Cheng Kun definitely had his hand in stirring the pot, but it was possession of the legendary weapons and a hunger for power that most of Wulin coveted.

The Guo couple had become legends that permeated the current Mongol-ruled China through their heroic actions alone, but their standing legacy in the HS and DS accounted for many, many casualties in the novel. Would there have been people who cursed the couple for making these weapons, thinking that they were the reason the people were so divided? Would there have been a stronger, unified China who could have overthrown the Yuan Dynasty much sooner than it did?

While there are many casualties due to the weapons but without the weapons they might be not able to win the fight against the mongols. Without Ngor Fei war manual and 9 Yin, the Ming sect might not be able to defeat the Mongol and found the Ming Dynasty.

The two manuals were really only for the wulin side of the story. Shortly after the Brightness Peak battle it was said that the army had already reached a million plus people and it was inevitable that the Mongolians would be driven out.

Even if Wuji and most of wulin got wiped out, it might only serve as a greater rallying force for the troops so pretty much nothing really mattered, though I guess the wulin folk still had to do things to feel relevant.

It's like the sects still "opposing" the Ming sect when a small portion of one of the 5 Flags is probably as strong as the rest of wulin combined.

I don't think they'd receive much blame though, as not many people knew it's history and could only assume the couple made some powerful weapons during times of war. I don't think the poem is actually attributed to them either (which is the cause of the slaughtering more than the weapons themselves) as Zhang Sanfeng said something like the poem wasn't around when he was young and was a more recent thing.

The events of HSDS and the overthrow coincided with the common person suffering multi generations of oppression by now along with a unifying force. If Wuji and the Ming sect events happened decades earlier, the common person would not have suffered enough to be motivated to join a rebellion. Both were required for success and an earlier rebellion was not very likely.

Wow. You gave too little credit to ZWJ and all the wulin folks. If ZWJ and most of the wulin folks got wiped out, the million troops would be falling apart. ZYZ won't be able to defeat the mongols and found the Ming Dynasty.
