Default Why can't the Heaven Sword and Dragon Sabre be reforged again?

These weapons had already been reforged once - the Heaven Sword was reforged from Yang Guo's Gentleman Sword and Xiaolongnu's Lady Sword, while the Dragon Sabre was reforged from Dugu Quibai's Heavy Iron Sword.

Why couldn't they be reforged again after breaking them to extract the secret hidden inside them?

In fact, the Dragon Sabre was repaired by the Ming Cult after it came into their possession. The Heaven Sword, however, the Ming Cult blacksmiths wouldn't touch because Mit Jeut See Tai had used it to kill so many of their comrades-at-arms.

Oh okay. Thank you for clarifying that. I haven't read the book but have seen countless TV adaptations of HSDS and none of them really addressed this.

Interestingly, in the latest 2019 adaptation, both are reforged by Ming Cult. The Heaven Sword was returned to Emei.

Watching this part now in the latest HSDS 2019. Can anyone explain why blood was needed to re-forge the saber and the sword? I didn't quite understand that part.

It was some kind of mystical reasoning that wasn't very well explained. The story goes to pot by this point. The 86 adaptation wraps things up better than the text.

Basically, by not addressing it. In the 1986 TVB adaptation, the weapons are last seen in broken condition and it is never mentioned or shown that they were ever repaired.

Based on the later series I watch:
2003: Both not re-forged. Broken HS returned to Emei. Broken DS to Shaolin as XX stays in Shaolin.
2009: DS re-forged by Ming Cult. HS not re-forged. Can't remember why. Can't remember whether it was returned back to Emei.
2019: Both reforged. HS returned to Emei. HS remains in Ming Cult? zwj used it to chop the throne into two.

Based on novel 1st and 2nd edition (not sure about 3rd edition)..
Heaven Sword still broken and "return" to Gobi Pay but Dragon Sabre "re-forged" the reason is the blacksmith which "repair" Dragon Sabre is member of Ming Cult and he only "repaired" Dragon Sabre since Heaven Sword was kills a lot of his fellow Ming member..

There's a load of stuff at the end of HSDS that the story could do without. The 1986 adaptation cuts all of that.

Dugu Qiubai = Tu Ku Kiu Pay
    Emei Pai = Gobi Pay
