Default (Relatively) weaker wulin fighters as "super soldiers" in ancient armies.

Elite martial artists generally have no interest in serving as soldiers. After all, their superior skills offer them many much more attractive options. I do wonder, however, if most of the national armies we see in wuxia have small squads of "super soldiers" consisting of low-level wulin fighters ranging from the levels of Yeung Teet Sum and Gwok Siu Teen to the weaker Gong Nam Freaks for special missions that don't warrant sending in a Greats-level fighter (which the national army probably doesn't have at their service anyway), and which standard soldiers lack the ability to accomplish, but are well-suited to small groups (e.g. a dozen or so) of low-level wulin warriors. Essentially, these fighters would be the ancient equivalent of Navy SEALS, Army Rangers, or Green Berets.

Could be. Being wulin people, they could possess the same/higher level of fitness and tolerance, basic ingredients for elite force.
More importantly, they are willing to sacrifice for their team mates. Once, I saw a drone documentary about US special forces being attacked in Africa (Sudan?). Being outnumbered, the special forces have to retreat. One of them is injured. Perhaps, finding himself a liability, he ordered the others to retreat while he stay back to fight. Needless to say, he died in the end.

Imagine a team of twelve "super soldiers" whose individual skills are on par with Yeung Teet Sum's. In wulin terms, that doesn't sound like much, but for a small military force with a specific, limited mission, that group could be exactly what's necessary.

    1. Your statements are JY world centric. e.g. there are many Elite masters serving the court (see Lu Xiaofeng Before and After the Duel) in say the GL world.

    2. Again, going outside the JY world, given human nature, it should be natural that the court has many highly skilled masters. In a world with super-powered fighters and villians, the court would not exist for long without its own fighters. Looking at actual Chinese history, the amount of back-stabbing, in-fighting that went on in the palace, the whole place should look like a gawdamn street-fighter X samurai showdown X ninja scroll video game every day and night.
Its BIxie Jianfa Gawdammit you guys!!!!
