Default Would a team of the Shaolin Chief Abbot and Fung Ching Yeung be able to defeat DFBB?

The two strongest fighters in SPW other than Dung Fong But Bai were likely the Chief Abbot of Shaolin (whose title and Buddhist name were the same, I think) and Fung Ching Yeung. Neither one ever fought against Dung Fong But Bai, and individually, DFBB was superior to them. What if the Chief Abbot and Fung Ching Yeung were to team up against DFBB? Could the two of them together defeat the shemale leader of the Sun Moon Cult?

Absolutely. While DFBB is powerful but he is not invincible. DFBB is about the same level as Chief Abbot and Fung Ching Yeung, not more powerful. Chief Abbot and Fung Ching Yeung are among super elite fighters in wulin. They are better than Ren Woxing.

DFBB was able to handle RWX, LHC, RYY & XWT without breaking a sweat.

I doubt if FZ or FQY could do the same.

I see FQY as knowing DG9J but only mastering 50% of it. He didn't do what DGQB did and roam wulin seeking out the best. By doing so he would have gain alot of combat experience and counter all form of martial arts, which is the essence of DG9J.

Reading some theory is different to practicing it and putting it to real use.

Just the two of them? Highly unlikely. DFBB absolutely clowned the RWX/XWT/LHC team. Fang Zheng (who was the abbot aka fangzhang) was perhaps slightly superior to RWX at best, with FQY being a wildcard. Unless FQY was dramatically better than FZ/RWX, they should have almost no chance.

The far more interesting question is, if you added Fang Zheng and Feng Qingyang to the original team, would that have been enough to take down DFBB? My gut still says no, but it’d be much more debatable.

Fang Zheng beat WRX without any difficulty. Facing humiliate loss, WRX used dirty dirty trick to win the fight. Again, WRX is proud of his shameless tactic.

Take out Yang Lianting from DFBB's side, though... Or maybe not - Yingying wouldn't have been able to torture "Brother Yang" in that manner with Fang Zheng around - which was the real reason for DFBB's downfall ... One problem with Fang Zheng being around is that he'd probably try to enlighten DFBB with scripture, and - depending on how irredeemable DFBB was - might actually succeed...

Yeah, not true. It was specifically stated that the two were well-matched. On a technical level, they were a match, and each forced the other to take a few steps back several times during the fight. In the end, RWX could sense that Fang Zheng's Yijinjing internal energy was inexhaustible and would put him at a disadvantage, so he attempted to use XXDF. Upon realizing that XXDF didn't work on YJJ, he went '**** it' and pulled the Yu Canghai trick. This is why I say that Fang Zheng edged RWX at best; they were technically matched but Fang Zheng had superior internal energy, but the end result was maybe a 5% or 10% superiority that could only achieve victory in a very long and drawn-out battle, whereas DFBB was seemingly an astounding 300% or 400% better. If it was DFBB vs RWX one-on-one, DFBB would've killed the latter in seconds. It's not even close.

This palm he sent out looked ordinary. But halfway through the strike, it suddenly swayed. The single palm suddenly turned into two palms. Two palms turned into four palms. Four palms turned into eight palms. "Thousand Hands of Rulai!" the words escaped Ren Woxing's mouth. He knew that if he was late for a bit longer, his eight palms would turn into sixteen palms and then it would continue to transform into thirty two palms. With a shout, Ren Woxing immediately sent a palm out to attack Fangzheng's right shoulder. Fangzheng shot his left palm out underneath the bottom of his right palm. It then swayed slightly and started to transform. The shadows of the palm turned from one to two and two to four. Ren Woxing jumped up and shot out two palms of his own.

Linghu Chong peered from his vantage point to observe the fight. Great Master Fangzheng's palm moves were unpredictable. Every strike he shot out, it always changed into many different directions when it reached halfway. The palm moves were like illusions and couldn't be observed. On the other hand, Ren Woxing's palm moves were simple. When he struck out or pulled his palm back, it looked quite stiff. But no matter where Fangzheng's palm struck out, Ren Woxing would immediately follow every change and sent his palm there. Linghu Chong saw that these two people were well-matched as they fought with all their powers.

    (...)

He watched for a while longer and suddenly saw Ren Woxing pushing out with both hands forcing Great Master Fangzheng to retreat three steps. Linghu Chong was alarmed. "Ayo, this is bad, Great Master Fangzheng is going to lose."

After that he saw Great Master Fangzheng's left palm drew a few circles while his right palm struck out. It struck out to the top, bottom, left, and right. After striking out a few times, Ren Woxing retreated a step. After a few more strikes, Ren Woxing retreated a step again. Linghu Chong thought, "Good, good!"

    (...)

Ren Woxing had now fought for a long time. He gradually felt that Great Master Fangzheng's palm moves were getting slightly slower. He secretly felt happy. "Even though your palm move is wonderful, you're old already. It's hard to keep it up for a long time." He immediately attacked repeatedly. After his fourth strike, he felt a slight tingling on his right arm as he pulled his palm back and he felt his internal energy not working smoothly. He felt alarmed and knew that it was his own inner energy that was disturbed. He thought, "This old monk's Tendon Altering Sutra is indeed powerful. We haven't clashed palms yet but he can restrain my internal energy." He knew that if they fight longer, his opponent's abundant internal energy would eventually come out and he would be in an unfavourable position.

He saw Great Master Fangzheng's left palm struck out. With a cry, he also sent his left palm out rapidly. The two palms clashed and they both retreated a step. Ren Woxing felt that even though his opponent's internal energy was soft, it was abundant and matchless. He also used his "Art of Essence Absorbing" but unexpectedly he could not absorb Great Master Fangzheng's internal energy at all. He was confounded.

Great Master Fangzheng said, "Well done! Well done!" and followed with his right palm striking out. Ren Woxing again struck his right palm out to meet it. Both people faltered from the impact. Ren Woxing felt his whole body shaken and immediately took two steps backwards. When his second step landed, he turned his body around and his right hand shot out and grabbed Yu Canghai's chest. Then, he raised his left hand to smash it down on Yu Canghai's head.

This situation was just like a rabbit being captured by a falcon and nobody had expected this turn of event. They all had their eyes on the fight between Ren Woxing and Great Master Fangzheng and saw that the situation was gradually becoming disadvantageous towards Ren Woxing. Normally, he would put all his power into protecting himself. But who would have thought that he would turn around and attack Yu Canghai. This turn of event was just too strange and too quick for Yu Canghai even though he was a martial artist of the same generation. If he were to actually fight with Ren Woxing, even though he would lose at the end, he would not have been captured in just one move.

Not sure if just chucking more people in scales up...it gets crowded.

But I think it would be very interesting if it was just FCY _and_ LHC against DFBB.

LHC alone due to his pure attacks was able to sort of keep DFBB at bay even though it was a struggle, if FCY was also there doing pure DG9J attacks, maybe even DFBB would be fighting defensively and in the end, only win because his inner energy outlasted those 2.

Given how much nonsense DG9J was able to pull from the plot's arse, TWO DG9J users attacking together should be quite crazy. I would say 2x DG9J is even better (against DFBB) than LHC + Real_Man_Zhang

The trouble with FQY is that he is a complete wildcard. Unlike FZ, RWX or even DFBB himself, we have absolutely no idea what he is capable of since he was never once shown in a fight, nor do we know anything of his deeds in the past (at least from the second edition onwards - in the first edition, he single-handedly massacred all the cult elders, whom the combined forces of the five-sects alliance could not defeat without resorting to trickery and traps). He could run the gamut from being slightly better than LHC, to being capable of one-shotting DFBB.

I would fall back on my 'author intention' theory and say that obviously FQY was not designed to be better than DGKB himself and since even DGKB would be pleased to fight RWX, then FQY I believe is better than late novel LHC (based on LHC's thoughts when he saw LPZ perform Bixie) but not in the one-shot RWX (much less DFBB) category.

Well Feng Qingyang only "edge" Ren Woxing in swordplay not in overall skill so with Fangzheng help they would be only tie with Dongfang Bubai at best..

The problem is that FQY’s skills are solely reputational so but also contradictory. FQY himself suggested that for an old man like himself, he wouldn’t be fast enough to outmatch Tian Boguang in terms of speed, so he would have to rely on his attacks being positioned in advance a la DG9J, but this was almost certainly just metaphor. The Jiangnan Four Friends mocked that RWX was afraid of FQY, and although it was clear that this was just to egg RWX into fighting LHC, it suggests that the two were at least viewed as more or less peers. At the same time, while RWX acknowledged FQY’s skills, it seems clear that this was also by reputation and not personal experience; while RWX himself praised FQY as being the only one good enough to understand RWX’s own marvelous techniques, he was also clearly astounded when he saw LHC’s DG9J and initially said (twice) that there was no way that FQY could teach something like this, and that there was no way anyone could use Huashan sword arts to make Hei Baizi only defend and be unable to attack. Given how intelligent and how much insight RWX was portrayed in that scene as having, this suggests that there were generally very few people in the jianghu who had firsthand knowledge of FQY’s skills.

The only person who seems to have actually seen FQY in action was Fang Sheng, the junior brother to Fang Zhang, as he recognized DG9J as soon as LHC used it, but he never gave any concrete statements about FQY’s strength.

In the end, I think the issue is simply that FQY was of a generation above all the “main” sect leaders, and had retired long before their time, so while his reputation endured, there just wasn’t enough info about him. To the wulin at large he was just another one of many legends.

Ok perhaps Feng Qingyang better in swordplay and Ren Woxing in overall skill but they are still in the same class just like Linghu Chong and Chongxu..
