Default Deun Yu and Ling Wu Chung: the "glass cannon" of Jin Yong protagonists?

The majority of Jin Yong protagonists are two-way threats: not only were they powerful on offense and able to defeat nearly any enemy, but they were also highly durable and difficult to injure: Hui Juk, Kiu Fung, Gwok Jing, Yeung Gor, and Cheung Mo Gei each could tank a lot of damage and keep ticking.

The exceptions to this are Deun Yu and Ling Wu Chung. These guys were kind of glass cannon. Deun Yu was a huge offensive threat due to his 6 Mak Divine Swords, but if you managed to strike him (difficult, I know, because of his Ling Bor Mei Bo skill), he'd go down easily. Despite his skills, he was still built like a weakling scholar. Ling Wu Chung was relatively robust (a legit wulin warrior), but still something of a glass cannon: his Dook Goo 9 Swords made him a very dangerous opponent, but on the other hand, injuring him wasn't difficult at all (as we saw again and again in SPW).

No, they still had crazy internal power protecting them.

e.g. YBQ broke his leg when kicking LHC (debatable if he plotted it I give you that but there were many supreme experts present and there had to be a plausible scenario where LHC's internal could plausibly cause that for him to even try the stunt)

As for DY, by mid novel he wasnt close to glass cannon anymore. He could take a full blown hit from JMZ and not get severe injury. And of course if you hit him the wrong way, he just gets stronger from absorbtion. Glass cannon in that he could not reliably dodge attacks yes, glass cannon as in easy to injure IF you hit him, not really.
Its BIxie Jianfa Gawdammit you guys!!!!

It was pointed out later that XXDF was qualitatively different from conventional inner-power systems in that it did not have an auto-protect function - the user must consciously choose to repel an attack. LHC was probably more than powerful enough to shatter YBQ's leg (and probably do a lot worse if he wanted to) without sustaining any injury to himself, but he must consciously want to do so. None of the other experts present except for RWX knew of this limitation.
