Default Sun Moon Cult moved from the old Ming Cult HQ to new HQ Black Wood Cliffs?

From the time of Wong Seung around 100 years before LOCH until the end of HSDS around 250 years later, the Ming Cult's headquarters was located at Gwong Ming Peak in the Western Regions. Though calamity visited the Ming Cult time and time again, the cult refused to give up on their sacred headquarters.

Many fans believe that the Sun Moon Cult from SPW was a rebooted Ming Cult, but apparently, the new incarnation of the cult made a new headquarters at Black Wood Cliffs and abandoned the old Gwong Ming Peak headquarters. What do you think happened that finally caused the cult to move to a new headquarters?

    In a word: Zhu Yuanzhang.

After Zhu Yuanzhang ascended to become the founding emperor of the Ming Dynasty, he dramatically crushed everyone who could potentially serve as opposition to him, including his old Ming Cult war-buddies - this is specifically narrated by Jinyong in the final chapter of HSDS. This is something we've seen several times in Chinese history; Liu Bang did the same upon founding the Han Dynasty. As Zhu Yuanzhang was a former Ming sect leader, one could surmise that his thorough understanding of the Ming Cult resulted in a most thorough purge, forcing them to abandon Guangming Peak (or, more likely, be completely wiped out at it).

It seems highly likely that the Sun Moon Cult was created from the literal dregs that were leftover, followed by lax recruiting standards allowing in many unorthodox experts to boost their highly depleted numbers, which is probably a reason why conflict once more spread between them and the 'righteous' sects. On a superficial level, the ties are obvious; Sun Moon (日月) is formed from the radicals that create Ming (明), and Xiang Wentian's title was 光明左使 (Left Emissary of Brightness), a title that only the Ming Sect has ever used. However, the heart and soul of the Ming Cult had been completely gutted out; there were no Persian ties, the religious aspects such as the quasi-Zoroastrianist fire-worship were completely gone, the connection to Brightness Peak was gone, there were no more Four Heavenly Kings, and even all the signature Ming Sect skills were completely lost. We call the Sun Moon Sect the 'heir' to the Ming Cult, but in virtually every way that mattered, it wasn't.

Zhu Yuanzhang ruthlessly destroyed the Ming Cult. The few survivors who reformed into the Sun Moon Sect essentially just kept its name and a few of its titles, and nothing else.

If Zhu Yuanzhang exterminated the Ming cult and the survivors established the Sun Moon sect, then how come they never seeked revenge against the Ming Dynasty? There was never any thoughts of such thing?

Probably not strong enough. A Chinese imperial dynasty's army at the height of its strength is too much for any wulin sect to handle.

It was explicitly stated during the siege at Shaolin that the battle caused the martial artists to realize that they were no match for a real coordinated army attack.

Would be interesting if a copy of Qian Kun Da Nuo Yi was left behind and RWX was able to learn it and cure the mixed internal energy problem he had with XXDF.

Not just that but the 9 Yeung as well. Unfortunately, all the elite martial arts from LOCH, ROCH and HSDS are gone.

Not all. Mo Dong Sect's Tai Chi techniques endured, though there were no practitioners at Cheung 3 Fung's level by the time of SPW. Taoist Chung Hui was no pushover, but he was no Cheung 3 Fung either.

This is suck huh. It is hard to accept that elite Wulin fighters are no match for the army. It is hard to accept that people like Gwok Jing and Wong Yung lost to the Mongol army.
