Default Why did Lee Chum Foon return to his hometown?

Lee Chum Foon had been in the hinterlands for upwards of a decade before he suddenly decided to return to his hometown at the beginning of SENTIMENTAL SWORDSMAN, RUTHLESS SWORD. LCF was no fool: he likely anticipated that returning to town would cause trouble among Lung Siu Wan, Lam See Yam, and himself, and that's EXACTLY what happened. That being the case...why go back? What was he hoping to achieve?

perhaps to see his lover, even just a glimpse and near around her would make him satisfied

It turned out to be a very bad idea. Did he have a more concrete objective in mind? What was he going to do after he got there...stand on the street and just stare at his former manor from across the street? People don't travel hundreds of miles across the hinterlands during a cold winter to do that.
