Gold Currency Union Chief Seung Gwoon Gum Hung had a biological son, Seung Gwoon Fei. While it cannot be said that SGGH did not love his son, he evidently didn't think so highly of his son's capabilities as a martial artist or a leader. Seung Gwoon Fei wasn't incompetent at martial arts or leadership, but Ging Mo Meng was just better at being both than SGF. Hence, SGGH entrusted GMM with being his second-in-command and enforcer in the Gold Currency Union, making SGF feel superfluous and jealous of the esteem GMM held in SGGH's eyes.

But who was the real heir apparent of the Golden Currency Union? Primogeniture and nepotism would say it's SGF, as he is the biological son of SGGH, but SGGH placed a premium on capability, merit, and accomplishment, and GMM held the advantage over SGF in those areas. Moreover, after SGF and SGGH both perished, did Ging Mo Meng in fact inherit the wealth and leadership of the Golden Currency Union...at least until SGGH's daughter with Lam Sin Yee was of age to take over years later?
