Default Dook Goo Kau Bai's martial arts: powerful, but one-dimensional?

The life of a wulin warrior is kill or be killed. Very simple. Either you are a better fighter than your opponent and vanquish him/her, or he/she is superior and vanquishes you.

And on this metric, Dook Goo Kau Bai and his esoteric sword techniques get the job done.

We know from following the adventures of our favorite wuxia heroes, however, that winning fights, while of paramount importance to life in wulin, is not the only dimension of that life that matters.

Dook Goo Kau Bai's sword techniques are good at vanquishing opponents, but they do nothing else.

If you have suffered grave internal injuries that threaten your life, health, or ability to continue functioning in wulin, various internal training manuals such as the Bak Ming Divine Arts, the Yik Gun Gung, the 9 Yum Jen Ging, or the 9 Yeung Jen Ging can help you heal, but the Dook Goo sword techniques would do nothing for you.

If you need to elude an enemy that is pursuing you, various arts increase your running speed, levitation ability, or ability to go stealth and become difficult or impossible to detect. Dook Goo sword arts do not accomplish these objectives for you.

Overcoming hypnotism? Need to hold one's breath for an extended time? Gaining resistance or immunity to poison? Various arts can provide these functions for you, but Dook Goo sword techniques will not.

Dook Goo sword techniques are great for winning fights, and while winning fights is a big part of wulin life, it doesn't encompass all the needs of a wulin warrior. If Dook Goo sword techniques have a downside, it's that they aren't versatile.

Wouldn't it be the same for all those other sword gods like Ximen Chuixue & Ye Gucheng? They were known for their sword skills and not internal or lightness skills etc.

Actually, Gu Long went out of his way to show that both Sai Mun Chui Sheut and Yip Goo Sing were more eclectic than expected in their assorted skills beyond swordsmanship. Sai Mun Chui Sheut, especially, was a polymath who, in addition to his famous swordsmanship skills, was also an expert on identifying and purging poisons (how he saved the life of his soon-to-be wife Sheun Sau Ching after she had been stricken by Seung Gwoon Fei Yin's poisonous Flying Phoenix Needles, and how he intended to cure the supposedly injured Yip Goo Sing when the latter had apparently been stricken by the Tong Family's poisoned dart), on figuring out mazes and formations (which is how he penetrated the forest outside of the Haunted Valley and reached the Gate of Life and Death), and even on how to run a business (his bakery in Beijing). As for Yip Goo Sing, Luk Siu Fung remarked that Yip's signature Flying Angel Sword Technique could be performed only by somebody of superior levitation skill. For Sai Mun Chui Sheut's part, Fa Mun Lau remarked that SMCS was one of only three or four people in all of wulin whose levitation skills were so superior that even FML could hear no sound when SMCS walked close to him.

Perhaps. He might have had some talent for animal husbandry too, seeing that he grew a condor to monstrous proportions.

To be fair these "limitations" on Dugu Qiubai's martial arts are just limitations on swordplay as a whole. Tai Chi Sword, Quanzhen Sect, Jade Maiden Sword etc.. all of them are just combat arts and don't really do much else.

All we have left of Dugu Qiubai is his sword art and we have no idea if this is the sum of his abilities. However, as the last of the Dugu 9 sword is to combat Qi, we can safely assume he had at least a working understanding of Qi.

Tai Chi Sword Technique, Cheun Jen Sect Sword Technique, and Jade Maiden Sword Technique are all derived from all-around martial arts systems that encompass aspects such as inner power, levitation skills, etc.

Not on their own they don't. Tai Chi sword has no internal art of it own, Zhang Sanfeng internal art was Pure Yang unlimited Kung. Quanzhen Sect Swordplay is independent from the internal art, which is the same for Jade Maiden Swordplay hence YG and XLN could study the swordplay without needing the internal art.

Jade Maiden Swordplay required internal art which was why YG and XLN needed to meditate naked.

I recalled YBQ saying that as long as one has powerful internal strength whatever swordplay will naturally become powerful. YG’s HIS was powerful bcoz he had crazy internal strength

Well TBH Pre-16 years HIS YG still behind Greats in terms of "power" also what make HIS so spesial is not just "power" but about the "philosophy" how to maximize and utilize your power to beat your opponents without that "secret" HIS only heavy and blunt sword (not effective anymore)..

2.We saw how much YG improved
    3.We saw HIS

It is better that YBQ and his qi branch keep their nonsensical ideas for themselves because their ideas only good for them.
Exactly before this legendary idea LCH with some simple moves break NZZ's unrivaled and unmatched, the thrust of ning
So we can see how much YBQ is idiot(FQY said he is a total moron)
