Default Being a Dali Royal Guardsman is the most redundant job in wulin.

Kings are important people and their security is a matter of national (if not international) concern, but in wuxia fiction, if you're one of the Dali king's four royal guardsmen, it's kind of a joke because invariably, the king's martial arts are ten times better than yours.

Ming Clan's Four Guardian Kings are also similar. Ming Clan Leader martial arts is also much higher than them combine

that's true, but there's strength in numbers. Just because you are an elite fighter doesn't make you invincible. In fact, Guo Jing got his *** beat in ROTCH, when he was ambushed by a group of top Mongol fighters, and didn't bring enough reinforcement.

Redundant indeed, but it comes with some GREAT perks! Such as learning Yiyang Finger and being able to pass it on to your descendants for generations even after the Royal Dali family went extinct, thus becoming the sole users of this great martial art.

Just to confirm, Zhu Changling from HSDS was the last user of Yiyang Finger right? Then the art went extinct?

Maybe. He's the last known user of the skill in the Jin Yong canon.
