Default What if Huang Rong and Yang Guo had been mother and son?

HR & YG had a somewhat antagonistic relationship due to miscommunication, mutual suspicions and to an extent because they had similar levels of intelligence.

However, would they have gotten along better if they had been mother and son?

HR was undoubtedly a doting mother, who loved all her children, even the brat GF unconditionally. So how would she have treated a son like YG?
YG was a man of passion of great passion who cared deeply for those he loved. So how would he had treated a mother like HR?

The sticking point would be Xiaolongnü. Lets say somehow YG had the same relationship with XLN as he did in the original, would HR be more forgiving or would she interfere even more?

Don’t think JY would like that dynamic. He always like an underdog story. YG can be GJ and HR son, but only if he’s separated from them early on or both GJ and HR became deceased. That’s the wuxia conventional tropes, but it’ll be an entirely different story. YG would probably be spoiled and lazy. He would not have learn certain skills or met certain people.
Most people are forgetting that most modern audiences grew up with the second or third edition of JY books. Most tv/movies also adapted the second and third editions of his stories except for anything from the 60s/70s. People used to question why HR despises YG even though YG is MNC son and she raised him during his childhood. In the original first edition found in JY own newspapers, YG wasn’t MNC’s son, but the son of another female rival that’s after GJ affections. In that version, YK was even more despicable. It’s very rare, but pretty sure some people still have copies of that original edition. Ni Kuang, one of JY friend that helped him wrote part of DGSD manage to publish his short stories in the form of a book series all thanks to a fan keeping a newspaper compilation of his old works.

If YG is the son of HR, then he would not be protagonist, but will be useless son like other HR son and daughter (except GX).
HR is smart but unfortunately he is not really a good mother.

definitely forgiving, let's not forget her father didn't really like Guo Jing in the beginning either. So she knows a little something about mismatched pair.

That's a problem right there: growing up with both parents in his life, Yeung Gor could not and would not have the same kind of relationship with Little Dragon Girl. Let's not forget that Little Dragon Girl essentially raised him for a few years, and that was the foundation of their relationship. Had Gwok Jing and Wong Yung been Yeung Gor's actual parents and he grew up under their care, Little Dragon Girl would just have been another (albeit exceptionally) pretty girl. He might have developed a crush on her, but things would have evolved very differently.

Didn't stop her trying to break them up in the original. Still if it was her own child things might be different?

yeah I think it might be different. Huang Rong seemed like the type who would bend the rules for family members, unlike Guo Jing and her father. Case in point, is when she helped her daughter escaped when Guo Jing wanted to cut off her arm as retribution for cutting off Yang Guo's arm.
