    Default Photoshop help needed urgently!

Ok, lets say I have a scanned image, and I want to change the opacity of one part of it, but no the rest. How would I do that?

Do I need to use a layer mask? If so, how? I know how to apply a layer mask, but when I apply the mask, all it does is change the selected area to white, and I can't change the opacity and I don't want that.

    THanks!

Use the polygonal lasso tool to mask out the area you want. Then go to Paths, select. There's an opacity control bar on your layer tool bar. Adjust from there.

-----To be safe create a duplicate layer then change the opacity of the duplicate layer. Select whatever area you want to keep w/opacity then do a inverse select and delete. This will allow the rest to show up from the layer beneath while keeping the opacity part from the duplicate layer. You can flatten image after that.

    Thanks guys!

Now, can anyone tell me how I can get PS to let me type Chinese? It used to have an MS Song font that I could use, but since I reinstalled it, I dont' have that option anymore, and I don't remember how I got it.

If you have reinstalled your computer, you may also need to reinstall the font (MS Song). Check to see if you have that font.

First off, do you have Photoshop 7.0? I used to use 5.0 and I don't think they let us type Chinese.

Secondly, you need to find and download the font MS Song for simplified Chinese. If it's traditional, you'll have to search for that. I forgot what it's called. Once downloaded, install the font.

And then, you need something that allows you to type Chinese, such as NJ Star.

And voila, it should work. If not, PM me and I'll help you sort out anything that sounds unclear. My PM is my best bet, since SC kind of wants this forum to be more of technical questions for the site or board than just computers.
