This isn't another cosmetic. But they also use the red paper to put on their cheeks.

Also the ancient Chinese girls used to shape their eyebrows like modern girls.

Man I wish our expert Jennifer was here to answer all these questions.

Other than the red paper, I think they have a very small box for powder. (Remember SOD96)

I wonder what they use for eyeliner...I mean eyebrows you know...heheh I hope they don't use ink...haha..

Well, the eyebrow pencil is a must since that was the last wish Zhao Min of HSDS asked of her Mo Gei Koh Koh to do for her. I'm not sure exactly what they used though during that period.

The use of ink brushing for face is not uncommon though. I believe women in the Tang Dynasty used to dot their foreheads with a red dot or have a flowers drawn on their foreheads as well. (i.e. Yeung Kwai Fei -- Yeung Yuk Wan).

And yes, pressed powder to color the face white should be in use during the ancient period as well. I believe ground up pearl dust (along with other natural ingredients) was used. It's called "yien zhi."

Hope this helps

Have any of you ever wondered why some series make guys put on the stupid looking half ponytail hairstyles that stick straight up??? Like Fu Hong Xue's costume in Che Ma Xiao Xi Feng. If you've seen that, you'll probably remember that his hairstyle made him look utterly ridiculous.

Post Was there any visa during wuxia time?

Of course visa here is not a credit card..but a permit for someone to travel to another country. Anybody has a clue for this?

hmmmm.probably no.cos i don think heroes of ancient times would abide to this government visa.that's also probably a reason y ppl in the past manage to chabge their identify/name so easily.

There was, IMO. Not mentioned in wuxia novels, but in Journey to the West.

I don't know the name in Chinese WK, but paper money has been widely used in China after 10th century.

I just realize that in my wuxia story, actually the characters can't move easily from one country to another without visa... sighed..never thought about it before!

I recall that in RETURN OF THE CONDOR HEROES, Gwok Fu needed a special passport (signed by Gwok Jing) to get *out* of Seung Yeung Fortress after she had cut off Yeung Gor's arm. Perhaps passports were only required for crossing national borders (as they are today) or entering/exiting military outposts like Seung Yeung.

Actually Ken,

I think the reason that GF needed some kind of passport was for security reasons. Not because she's going to cross the boarder. In fact, GF was suppose to go back to the peach blossom island, not to Mongolia, so it doesn't make sense that it's a "visa".
It means you got eyes like apostrophes, you dress white, talk black, and drive Jew. So how am I supposed to know what kind of zipperhead dog-munching dink you are if you don't?

Post virginity in wuxia

sorry, but is there any difference in a virgin's and non-virgin's body? why several skills can only be practiced by virgin?

also remember the red dot in the girl's hand to mark her virginity? how can it dissappear once she has sex?

any logical explanation? or pure fiction?

The only physical difference I can think of is the presence of the hymen. I think the shougong sha aka the red dot is fiction... so does the other martial arts about requiring the learner to be virgins. I think it's just something to make the novel more angsty or something. I mean, it's hard for girls to fall in love yet have to retain a platonic relationship with the guy FOREVER just because of the stupid skill she's learning~! Doesn't that invoke some sort of pity?
