    Default Ages

what is the prime age for actors and actress now?

I remember once the leading men was always much older then the leading actress... (usually TVB hire the next or runner up Miss HK)

It kind of creep me out to see someone old acting with someone young especially in romantic roles.

Example, francis and myone (sp) in Truimph in the Skies.

I guess nowadays the trend is the great difference in age. Younger women with older men or vice versa.

Not that I mind the first type though. I kind of like it.

well TVB always cast girls from Miss HK rejects so there are too many young girls and little young guys. TVB make so many series they can't use the same people all the time so they mix and match who "they think" suite, Francis and Myolie seems too far apart based on age

i don't think there is a prime age for people who have no talent i guess when they're young or still have there looks. so guys actors last longer than females.

although guys are older they're usually don't look much older so are paired up with young girls or vice versa to give them a more younger image.

The 'shelf life' for actors has always exceeded actresses. Look at TVB actors like Gallen Lo, Roger Kwok and Deric Wan. They're either hitting their 40s are are in their 40s, and they're at the top of their career. On the contrary, the actresses that they used to be paired up with like Maggie Siu, Sheren Tang etc are now taking on mostly mother roles.

Most of the well-established TVB actresses range from mid-20s to mid-30s nowadays. It used to be much worse back in the 80s when an actress hit early 30s and usually starts planning for retirement. I also think it's TVB's policy to promote actresses faster than their male counterparts who come in at the same time because actresses have shorter shelf lives. For example, Joe Ma was in the same acting class cohort as Jessica Hsuan, but he only started getting leading roles lately. That also means he's going to be around for a good number of years more compared to her. Sad but true.

In a few more years, we'll see Jessica, Maggie, Ada playing motherly roles. Of course, right now, you DO see them playing mothers of small kids already.

As for films, it's rare to see film actresses reaching new heights of popularity (or have some sort of renaissance). The three top grossing actresses, Sammi, Miriam and Cecilia are either less than their mid - 30s, or in their 20s (for Cecilia... I think Miriam's 30 already...).

    Of course, there's Carina Lau...

Could it be that many actresses gets married after a subpar or successfuly TV or movie career and they started to think of their own family (like having kids) instead of full career in entertainment industry which lead to producers and directors forcing to use younger actresses or single actresses in the roles?

There must be some famous actress that is married and still maintain a good acting career right?

Did Brigette Lin spend most of her acting career while she was married?
