Default Do you believe Dook Goo Kau Bai's claims of invincibility?

Dook Goo Kau Bai is certainly one of the most mysterious characters in all of wuxia fiction. He was undoubtedly one of the most powerful warriors ever to have lived in the Jin Yong universe, but it is difficult to confirm beyond all doubt his rather outlandish claims of invincibility. All we know about Dook Goo Kau Bai's martial arts is what three of his "followers", Yeung Gor, Fung Ching Yeung, and Ling Wu Chung, were able to glean from the fragments of information and artifacts he left behind. The martial arts skills of these characters only gave us a glimpse of Dook Goo Kau Bai's martial arts. Based on what you know, do *you* believe Dook Goo Kau Bai's claims?

Yes I do. Look what "fragments" of his kung fu did for his "students".
Plus, JY wouldn't write about him for absolutely no reason whatsoever
All that's needed to say have been said, why say anything more? The man is drunk, why stay any longer?....

well, since JY wrote that Dugu is invincible, then he is. Its not a hazy bit of speculation such as YG><GJ but an actual written "fact" by JY. So personally I take it he's invincible, hey, are we gonna argue abt something JY stated solidly?

I partially believe in the ability of Dugu. However, I do think also that the students all have a very good kongfu background before having a chance to know his kongfu. So, they know how to make the most benefit of Dugu's style.

JY never said that DGQB was invincible. FCY and DGQB themselves claimed it. It was not written by JY from a narrators perspective.

IIRC, didn't JY say that his 'most undefeatable' character was Xiao Feng during an interview.

I thought it was written down and they just read what was written? So DGQB himself claimed to be undefeated, which JY made him to be.

I find it hard to believe that someone so powerful would be unknown to the Greats.

Apart from ZSF and Mie Jue, no one really knew about the greats during HSDS, so it would be possible that none of the greats knew about DGKB during LOCH/ROCH.

Well Fan Yao (or maybe it was Yang Xiao) made reference to Guo Xiang as 'Little East Eccentric', so they must also have known about East Eccentric.

Yu DaiYan did mention Guo Jing and Yang Guo. Yang Guo was memorized as a person who killed the mongolian king. Hai Dong Qing who in ch 2 also know them and he also know the part of the secret of Dragon Sabre and the Heavenly Sword.

Yang Guo actually estimated that DuGu existed about 60 to 70 years before his time. While people like Yang Guo/Guo Jing are still remember after 100 years.

I just say up there that the people in HSDS remember Yang Guo as the Divine Condor Hero who killed the mongol king with a pebble.

Nobody knew the Janitor Monk even existed (other than Siu Yeun San, Mo Yung Bok, Kiu Fung, Kau Mor Tze, Mo Yung F*uk) because he never went public with his skills. Dook Goo Kau Bai, however, was supposedly *very* public in his day.

I have search long and hard and finally found it, ZWJ also mention H7G's name in Ch 33.

Also HR did mention XF and XZ name for the revision of HL18Z. And they are actually older than Dugu.

i dont think DGKB is the best martial artist but i think his kung fu is the best in teaching others. students who learned it seem to know how to display and use it to thier advantages really well.
i think he would be a great teacher, because just by looking at scripts of his arts people can understand and be the best. if he teaches his arts then i think ppl can do much better.

i dont think there are such kung fu as the best, just the way people uses it.
    for exp:
let QF practice crap kung fu i bet he would still be one of the most powerful.
    Am i Crazy!?!?!?!
