since that list is practically asking who's the best with weapons and not the actual item, can it be narrowed down, given to newbie idiot fighters with the same skills and let them at it?

But BHS' Book of Weapons was only for XLFD, wasn't it? Was it also for all weapons in GL's universe?

The weapons rating was essentially a rating for fighting superiority.
Thus, for example in a JY universe (of legendary figures):-
1) Broom
For the broom is the most effective weapons against dirt and evil, and the sweeper is a virtous person.

2) Wooden Stick
Where a weapon be if it is not present, where would a sword be if it is not a sword.

3) Needle
For the needle creates a quilt that is red, blood red.

Well, If The weapons ranking ever came to JY world, and a GL-like clone was writing about it, it would be in haiku, not prose.

Anyway, My point is that thw weapons ranking would be based on fighting ability not the merits of their weapons alone.

Thus, an example of how such a ranking in a JY world would be :-
1) Broom (Sweeper Monk, DGSD)
2) Wooden Stick (DGQB, Post-DGSD, Pre-LOCH)
3) Needles (DFBB, SOD)
