Default Which adaptions naturally come to your mind?

When we read about a wuxia character, many times the actor playing that character from a movie or TV series will come to mind, maybe because we saw the movie before the novel, or maybe that guy just fits the character. Whatever the reason, I want to know which adaptions and their actors are FOREVER CLAWED INTO YOUR SKULL as THE basis for your imagination.

(for example, when you think of LOCH, who do you picture as Guo Jing? Many of us will immediately picture Felix Wong. That's what I'm talking about with adaptions -- which one comes to your mind first and most?)

    For me:

DGSD - TVB 1982 version. the most impressive are Jiu Muozhi, Xiao Feng, Duan Yu, You Tanzhi, Mu Wanqing, and Duan Zhengchun. The worst are the Xiao Yao elders and Sweeper Monk.

    LOCH - tvb 1982 version.

ROCH - Taiwan 1980s version, but Yang Guo to me == Louis Koo in TVB 1995.

HSDS - 1994 movie with Jet Li (I esp like Xuan Ming elders). However, Zhang Wuji to me == Ma Jingtao in Taiwan 1993 version.

XAJH - 1992 movie Swordsman II (I esp like DFBB). However, Linghu Chong to me == Jacky Lui in SOD 1997.

XKX - Taiwan version with Max Mok Siu Keung

Sword Royal Blood - 1993 movie with Yuen Biao as Yuan Chengzhi

DOMD - 1992 movies with Stephen Chow as Wilson Bond (I especially like the one-armed nun)

Flying Fox - 90s Taiwanese version with Meng Fei as Hu Fei. But Yuan Ziyi to me == Hui Ying Hung from 1984 movie

Book & Sword - TVB 1976 with Adam Cheng

junny: my God, have you ever considered watching some programme not from TVB?

To be fair, TVB did define the genre for a good generation of people. Even though there were other adaptations that were better in many aspects, it's hard to displace those TVB series of my childhood. At least, they pop up in my head before the newer versions do. Nevertheless, here's my list, just keep in mind this isn't necessarily my list of favorites, just what pops into my head.

    DGSD - The newest version.

LOCH - TVB 1982 version, with Felix Wong & Barbara Yung

ROCH - TVB 1983 version, with Andy Lau & Idy Chan

HSDS - TVB 1986 version, with Tony Leung & Kitty Lai

XAJH - TVB 1997 version, with Jacky Liu

XKX - I recall that mainland China made a version in 2002 or something, but I haven't had the chance to see it.

Sword Stained with Royal Blood - Don't think I've ever seen any versions of this one.

DOMD - TVB 1984 version, with Tony Leung & Andy Lau, is there really any contest?

Flying Fox - The Taiwanese version made in around 1989. The one with the theme song of "Xue Zhong Qing" and "Zhui Meng Ren".

Book & Sword - Don't recall any version.

I like this one too. Some people even label it the most prominent adaption of that story, exceptionally surpassing the popularity of TVB's own! It seems to be the only really successful JY adaption outside TVB && outside recent years that I can recall ATM. Anyhow, I definitely remember the "Love in the Snow" song, kidz often sang it in elementary school

Probably not. I don't think some of the Taiwanese versions made it to my local TV station, and I'm not crazy enough to rent Taiwanese serials, even if they were about Jin Yong's novels. I watched the China version of LOCH, and I hated it.

I just happened to like the serials I quoted in my earlier post. Between Tony Leung for HSDS, versus an immature (and sorely in lack of acting skills) Alec Su, the choice is obvious for me.

on a purely visual level, I have trouble accepting Tony Leung and Andy Lau as wuxia heroes, mainly because I am most familiar with them in modern day triad movies. So I cannot picture them in ancient setting. Alec Su, on the other hand, looks suiting for ancient setting.

Legend of Dagger Lee- Vincent Jiao fits the role as Lee Chun Foon perfectly.

Swordsman II- Bridgette Lin does an excellent job as DFBB although the movie is a terrible adaptation.

Clans of Intrigue(Movie)- Ti Lung fits well as Chor Lau Heung and I don't get why people don't like him in the role.

The one that naturally come to my mind are:

-DOMD 84 with Tony and Andy(read some of this novel).
-LOCH 82 with Felix and Barbara.
-Xiao Li Fei dao 99 from Taiwan with Vincent and Xiao Qiang(even though the series isn't that faithful to the novel. I have read some of this novel).
-ROCH 83 with Andy and Idy
-FFOSM 85 with Ray and Elaine Chow(have read most of this novel)
-HSDS 86 with Tony and Sharen(read some of this novel)
-Bi Xue Jian 84 with Felix and Patricia Chong(have read some of this novel).

..... and that's all I can remember right now...
Respect other people's opinions and views. If we learn how to do that than all of these fights and arguments will not occur.

dgsd 1982 tvb - XF - Leung Kar Yan is THE most memorable actor as a wuxia character I can think of - and Jui Muozhi, despite the awful changes they made to the script
    equal to
dgsd 2003 cctv - because XF looks like a thief

LOCH 1983 tvb - Felix as GJ
    equal to
LOCH 2002 cctv - MCF awesome

HSDS 1986 tvb - mainly because of Bao Fong as Z3F

XAJH 1996 tvb - Jackie Lui and the script accuracy

OT, but whenever Xiao Ao Jiang Hu is mentioned, that song 'Cang Hai Yi Sheng Xiao' immediately comes to mind.

Its the most perfect fit I can think of for a song to a wuxia novel.

For LOCH, its that duet one from the TVB 80s series, whatever its called.
